Synopsis: The Last Breath
In 14th century India, an honourable Rajput king's fortress is under siege. When defeat looks absolutely certain, he orders his men to fight their enemy to the death. The queen orders the Rajput women to avoid dishonour at the hands of their enemies by ending their lives in a sacrificial fire. Everyone complies with the orders, except for one Rajput maiden named Advika. She escapes the fortress with her younger sister in tow and seeks refuge in a sage's hermitage. There, with the help of the sage's apprentice, an exiled Mughal prince, and her reluctant sister, she hatches a plan to avenge her fallen people and find honour on her own terms.
Excerpt: The Last Breath
The rain was coming down in thick sheets, drenching the sisters to the bone despite the thick robes they were wearing. They were huddled under a large tree that protected them somewhat from the elements, but not by much. Thankfully, it being the zenith of summer still, the rain was not cold. In fact, it acted as a balm to the sweltering humidity that had haunted them during their run through the jungle.
Still, they were wet, lost, and alone. Things were not looking well. Advika took solace in the fact that Kamini was no longer yelling at her. But there was a current of coldness in her body language that Advika knew would take some time to heal. Perhaps once they found shelter or someone to help them, they could begin the long process of patching up their frayed relationship.
