Excerpt: Gods at Play
Before he was gone Elathin called out and Alpha-9 stopped moving. In the darkness and starlight Elathin couldn't make out Alpha9's shape, just the rhythmic blinking of his light gave his position away, a lighthouse against the dark forest. “If the woods that mark the perimeter aren't real, then what is?”
“Everything here is an illusion,” Alpha-9's voice sounded clearly despite their distance. He continued his flight to the small stone circle and then fell from sight entirely, as if the earth had swallowed him up.
Elathin could hear Kaydin already rummaging through the cabin. He took a last look at the sky before turning in and saw a moon begin to rise, “I'll try and remember that.”
