Is there interest in a write-in at the Georgia Aquarium?

I've been tossing the idea back and forth in my mind for a while - is there interested in trying to get a write-in at the Aquarium organized? The down side is, of course, the aquarium does charge admission and all unless you have an annual pass. But then you could do and see the aquarium after writing or hitting your goal. Or maybe we all even go into the big ocean explorer one, sit down, and write staring at the exhibit or something.

Anywho, thoughts? I'm just tossing this idea back and forth in my mind, and thought I'd see if we do plan something if there'd be interest in it or not. This, by no means, is saying that this will actually happen :-)

The First Annual NaNoLanta Adopt-a-Newbie Program

Howdy All-

This year we want to institute a new annual tradition within our NaNoLanta group – adopt a newbie. Or, "The Annual NaNoLanta Adoption Program."

We have some totally amazing old timers here in NaNoLanta, those of us doing nano for many years.

We have a heck of a lot of people trying out NaNo for the first time.

Now, come on old timers, we all know we have some tips for the new folk. Tips on making it to 50k without going insane. The ability to wordpad like nobody’s business. The ability to squeak in 15 minute word wars before bed. Or even while sleeping.

Newbies! We know you have questions you are slightly too embarrassed to post in the full thread. Like, how can I do nano and not murder my significant other? Or pet? (which, really, are often much more similar than different.)

Now, old timers, I’d really like to encourage you to sponsor your newbie with the 10 dollar donation. If they hit their 50k goal, you chip in a 10 buck donation in their name for their first ever victory and they get a nice shiny halo to brag. And you get to brag too as their NaNoParent. Think of this as a way to start some NaNoFamiles here in Atlanta.

So, if you are either a newbie wanting to be adopted, or an old timer willing to adopt, post here.

Newbie: Name, goal, and genre (if you have decided.)

The NaNoLanta Annual Peach Dare

We're starting (another) new tradition here in Atlanta. Every year, we are going to work a peach into our novel. Now, this year we want just a normal, regular old peach. Who knows what kind of peach will be next year's dare? Could be a plastic peach, a peach tree, a miscolored peach, etc. But this year it's a regular, normal, run of the mill peach.

So this year, we have a dare for you. Work in a peach...somewhere in your NaNo, and join your NaNoLanta brothers and sisters in our peachiness.

Johns Creek Write Ins

I'm going to set up a weekly write in in the Johns Creek area this November.

I'm thinking either before noon, mid morning start time, or a later start time around 830 on a Monday - Thursday.

Who else is doing NaNoWriMo in the Johns Creek area? What times would work best for you?

I'm also thinking we'd do it either at the Starbucks or the Caribou coffee in the big old johns creek shopping center around 141 and McGinnis Ferry.

I graduated from Agnes Scott in May with math and French majors and am still on the job prowl. (If anyone knows of someone who needs a number cruncher/writer/editor/social media maven/general savvy person in Atlanta, please let me know.) Currently I live in Stone Mountain near the Indian Creek MARTA station. No, I have not been to the park. This needs to change.

This is an updated chatroom. We've had one on the mibbit servers, but we're switching to goodchatting for a few major reasons. a) for those who weren't using IRC, the webpage was a little annoying with the brown color and the constant beeps and reminders.
b) goodchatting has a word war bot called BattleJesus. Just..just wait till you see it in action - It will run and time all the word wars for us. It's going to be an amazingly fantastic tool - trust me!

Names?

Alright, names are something that don't really come easily to me, and yet with help of many different websites and friends I have compiled this list of characters. (Quite a few, I know, but some are mentioned but once.)
What are some of your opinions? I won't be changing any of the names, but still, critique is loved. If I rewrite the names /could/ change.

Hester - One of my two main characters; a witch.
Joshua - My second main character; one of the unfortunate souls who joined Das Verdammte for some "fun".
Uilleam (though I may just shorten it to Liam) - The ringmaster of this great show.

Sam and Romulus - My two shapeshifters.
Gideon, Elizabeth, and some unnamed others - My lycans.

Freddie - One of Joshua's friends, eaten by my lovely face-eating clowns within the first three paragraphs.

And those are all the named characters for the time being. Which do you love, and which do you hate? Why?
