Well, I don't have one yet, but that's because I never plan ahead before writing. I think it's funner this way. I am interested in meeting your villains/murderers.

Hey!
I don't think my NaNo is quite a mystery this year, but I have a murderer! Lots of, actually, since it happens in - sort of - a prison.
My main character is one.
I believe it's one of the mystery aspects of my work to discover why he killed a friend of his.
What about your murderer?

Aw, you don't think I'd let you find out THAT easily, do you? Heh heh heh . . . . After all, for me the fun part of a mystery is forcing the reader to find out who the killer is at the end - the REAL killer, anyway, since there can obviously be more than one. I have some dandy, deadly red herrings planned . . . . and the scariest character I'm planning to use isn't the main murderer!
There are fates worse than mere death.

Well, I'm actually trying to decide which of my players is the real murderer. :)
My story is based on a true murder that happened more than 70 years ago. The man they ended up arresting and gassing for the crime was innocent I believe. I wanted to go the true crime route, but the records are no more. Fiction it is!

At the moment, my murderer is the philandering husband, but that's so dreadfully pedestrian, and I'm having a hard time coming up with interesting clues and motives, so I may change my mind between now and November 1 when I finally start writing.

My current plan is to have a washed-up politician be the murderer. He's gotten away with his murder for fifty years, but one Rachel Quinn and her burnt-out, old fogey PI, Valentine Covington, are about to turn his whole world upside-down. Of course, in the process, he's gonna flip theirs, too.

The murderer is a teenage boy, and the killing part was probably an accident. Although in order for the victim to actually die he had to beat her up first, so he's not completely innocent.

My murderer is a hired assassin. She doesn't seem as scary as some of the other characters before you figure out what she is. She has another job too. I'm not sure if she's going to succeed in killing the person she was hired to kill or not. That all depends on how quickly the main character realizes she's in over her head (hopefully not too quickly, cause then the story won't last very long. I'm sure she'll be blinded by her ambition though) and how stubborn her sister is feeling when she figures it out (she's not the most forgiving person and tends to hold a grudge, but she also enjoys saying "I told you so". Hopefully she'll give in soon enough to save the victim).

Which one!? The story I'm doing my nano for is part of a series, and I still have yet to pick which story to do.....
One's a jealous sister.
One's the leader of a cult.
Another is a nurse framed by her boss and out for revenge.
One thinks he's immune from the law.
But the one I'll probably do is a police detective who's secretly a serial killer targeting the MC and manages to get two fans of his to pose as the real killers.

I'm thinking my murderer will just be a hired hitman with maybe a drug lord who ordered the murder (never mind that the person who actually died was not the target, but her daughter)

I kind of have two murderers. One is a hit woman on probation with the people she works for, so if she messes up her current assignment to take out my MMC, they're going to kill her. So she pretty much goes to drastic lengths to get the MMC back into her hands after he escapes her, by terrorizing the people closest to him until he gives himself up. The second is her superior, the guy who has to kill her if she fails. He has her on surveillance throughout the course of her assignment and he's a complete sociopath who has no conscience whatsoever.

The first question about the missing man (and it's pretty clear he's dead) is whether it was murder or mishap. Murder I think, although the possibiity of being eaten by wild boars is pretty intriguing.
Then we have motive. Will it be political intrigue and espionage? simple greed? a struggle over land use rights? a hate crime (the victim is an outsider). I'm leaning toward political intrigue but the hate crime fits pretty well, too.
As to who did it. The two companions with him just before he went missing? Some native villagers nearby? a hungry peasant (stealing from him)?
Anything is possible!

I have three murderers who each kill at least one person during the course of the novel, plus an ex-assassin.
There's the trained operative who's talent as an assassin has almost disappeared since her daughter's death. When her cover is blown, she has to kill in order to stay alive.
Then the contract killer who has nothing to lose and money to gain. It's her killing spree that reveals that someone's leaking secrets from a hidden organization.
And finally, a man running from his past who can't suppress his dark side. A man who will kill to protect his family.

My murderer is a rather prominent businessman with a taste for little girls. He's arrogant, and believes he has covered his tracks quite well. With his expensive lawyer, he believes he can beat any charges that might be brought against him, but in this case, the police are the least of his worries.
I'm still trying to decide if he will live to see the end of the book or not. Catching him is not the main focus of the mystery; the real mystery is where his victim came from.
