I'm writing two novels this year, and one of them will definitely be a superhero saga, old-school Marvel-esque dialogue and all. Anyone else having fun with superhumans, radioactive powers, and crimefighting?

@ necoon: My powers keep changing. I have one character with a type of empathy, I'm sure, and one who can use quantum physics to disappear from one place and reappear in another. Beyond that, I haven't managed to develop much more. I'm working on it steadily, though!
@ -Juliette: I haven't touched on bad guys yet, either, but I'm sure they will be purely evil and enjoy mind games. *Cackles*

I'm doing my first adventure-ish novel, and there are a bunch of people with powers! i don't really want to call them superheroes because they don't really save other people...they're sort of protecting their powers from others who want to steal them.

My bad guys really aren't all that nasty per se, they just know what they want and are willing to do anything to get it. And what they want is a world without superpowers of any kind. The main bad guy's a drug-dealer, gun-runner type who keeps a tight hold on crime in the city-- think Kingpin mixed with Johnny Marcone (from The Dresden Files).

Never forget to the super villains, my friends. I think an awesome idea for NaNoWriMo is doing the backstory of each member of the Evil League of Evil. Fanfiction, yes. But those stories are ripe for the picking! Before too long the canon backstories will be out so it would be good to do it soon.

Too much Heroes on the brain. Not enough inspiration. I'd love to write a superhero story but I have absolutely no ideas for one. My husband keeps poking me to write Heroes fanfic, but I don't fanfic. I've got a few mild ideas. A pen that makes anything you draw come true (see I said DRAW not write). And one that came out of a dream I had. A group of heroes settle down to have kids & stop saving the world, crime soars, one gets raped & has a baby, one can see the future and sees that the baby will be evil, steals kid, other super kids try to help, etc etc.

Oh yeah!
My thing is acronyms this year. I've become a wee obsessed. My heroes are all part of a team called SENTRY, and guess what, their names spell out the name of the time (fist nanoism ever {squee!}, wrote 'time' instead of 'team'[second nanoism wrote fist instead of first])
So I've got:
Shatterex
Eon
Nucleia
Tempesta
Raptoress, and
Ynferno
The super villian's name is Wraith, but back when she was a good guy, it was Chamelea (cheesy, yeah?)

I'm headed for a superhero NaNo, too! It's pretty new for me, and I'm trying to make sure I don't get bored by overthinking, but I was thinking of starting an "Adopt A Superpower" thread, either in here or maybe in Plot Doctoring. My thinking was that I've rejected several that are perfectly good, but not right for my novel, so maybe someone else can use them. What do you all think?

I am doing Supers as well! I have 4 college-aged heroes who get their powers through a cosmic way-thing.
I have about a third of it plotted so far, and they don't get their powers till then. I plan to keep it going over several nano's, lol. Hopefully this year will be the first year I will finish it, lol.

For anyone working on a superhero novel, Superhero Nation has a lot of very helpful stuff.
The Hero Machine is an awesome way to waste time and design your characters. You can go as realistic or as wacky as you want.
Hope that's helpful!

Mine would count as superheroes, if superheroes each only had control of one element. xD My characters each have their own elemental powers, one is fire, one is water, etc. >3 It's fun to write fight scenes with those kinds of powers. Not that ninja aren't totally awesome too. -ninja-

I did a superhero story last year - more of a romance/drama than adventure, although I had some big fight scenes as well (can't have a superhero story without one, can you?).
The first thing I did before beginning was to flesh out the characters, as well as the world they live in. Everything else came naturally after that.
In my world, superheroes had been common since the late 80's, and were treated like celebrities. All newspapers had a tacit agreement to not persue their secret identities, and if one broke that agreement they were pretty much run out of business by their customers. Heroes had natural-born superpowers, and part of their genetic makeup compelled them to be "good". While many donned outfits and formed groups, there were very few successful groups, and most stuck to major cities where the governments could afford to contract them to assist local law enforcement - and government officials never missed an opportunity to get a photo op with the popular ones. "Professional" heroes had a hard time making ends meet, and did it for the love of helping others - kinda like starving artists. It wasn't uncommon for superpowered people to remain civillians and take up jobs where they could still do good and live normal lives (doctors, firemen, etc.) Villains all had manufactured powers (lab accidents or super suits) and were driven by envy and greed.
If any of those ideas help those of you writing superhero stories this year, you're welcome to them! Excelsior!

I did a superhero story last year as well, and it was a lot of fun. Mind also had an element of romance, but quite a lot of over-the-top superhero action, which I tried to make a little realistic with a lot of property damage when a hero and a villain would have it out in the middle of a city street.
I used the City of Heroes character creator to visualize my characters so I would always have to remember what they looked like, since I had a cast of 5 villains and 9 heroes. It worked out pretty well; the story practically wrote itself.

I'm nearly convinced about writing a superhero story. I've got a few weeks to finalise, I guess. This is my first NaNoWriMo after all, so I don't think I'll have much planned before kick-off.
Anyway, Superhero Nation is a fantastic resource, even for non-superhero stories.
If you get stuck for ideas for characters, even bit-characters for some background, maybe check out Uberworld ( http://www.uber-world.com ) which is a website for a superhero RPG. Lots of characters, and some of them were created by me. My story may or may not take a bit of Uberworld and turn it into a fully fledged story. Still not sure.

I wrote a superhero story last year, and had lots of fun with it! I had about 12 characters that featured heavily in the plot, though, so I had a bit of trouble squeezing them all in. That story isn't finished but I do intend to do that at some point. =)
I would love to write a superhero story this year (the sequel to my other one <3) however I've got caught up in this new idea of mine. Ah well, perhaps i will return to this much-loved genre next year.

Yeah, I love Superhero Nation. And the HeroMachine eats up all my free time, I end up modeling all my characters. That's actually why I decided to do a superhero novel; I wanted to be able to design some full-on superheroes instead of just ordinary people.
Twenty-five days left until November!

I"m superheroing as well. I wrote Book 1 of a trilogy last year (didn't finish until January, didn't win Nano, boo), but I'm working on Book 2 this year. Wheee!
So, I do have teams, names, characters, powers, AND bad guys, though the bad guys section needs to be expanded a lot.
Too much fun!
