The hard part will be writing a new character who is not just another version of my other character (see sig). I've been writing my other character so long, it will be a challenge to write somethig different. Hopefully it will work out. =)

Years in NaNo: This will be my fifth.
This will be a sequel to my first Nano, with the same detective, and the same friendly, vampiric Techno-mage, Dr. Sideburns, set in the same futuristic Los Angeles. I plan to continue my "Universal Monsters" theme by basing this around an invisible man. (I've done a vampire, a were-wolf and a Frankenstein's Monster, so I figure this is the logical next step.) I do hope I have better luck than last year, as I ran out of steam at about 60K words some time in early January and although I won Nano, I've never finished it.

Waving hand - Hello!!!!
I'm going to give it a go this year and write a mystery. Last year was my first nano and I wrote a simple christian romance. Taking the month of october to do research and get all my ducks in a row to start writing on the first. Is it crazy that I haven't finished the rewrite on my first nano book. Do people generally have several projects going on at the same time - editing a novel, while writing a whole new one? Multitasking! My life is full of multitasking. Haven't come up with a title yet, but soon.

Working Title: I've yet to figure out an original one that doesn't hint at the big picture too much.
Type of Mystery: It's more a suspense with a bit of police procedural mixed in.
Years in NaNo: This will be my third year with two wins under my belt.
I have about half of my plot here - 25 plot points, some character work and research behind me. It would seem there's not too much more to do, but it seems like so little work done and even less time to work on it.

I'm Ashleen, and this is my second year with NaNo and my first try at writing a mystery. The Decanter is about twins separated at birth, who are reunited at an event that puts them on the trail of a potentially history-changing discovery, throws them into trance, and puts them into danger from their parents' murderer. Cheesy and ambitious -- who could ask for more? ;-)
BTW, I'm a Wiccan priestess happy to consult with anyone who wants their Neo-Pagan characters to believe and behave realistically.

I'm usually working on more than one project at a time, though I try not to work on more than one on any given day. So far I've added 13,000 words to the novel I wrote last November, and still need another 15,000-ish -- so I hope it's not crazy not to have finished the rewrite. ;-)
Blessings,

This should be an interesting year. I've been writing murder mysteries for the past 3 Nano's and #2 of the bunch (2006) was definitely the best so far - not sure how I got into pitfalls and whatnot last year.
This year, though, I am putting myself in a limited corner to start with, though, as I have decided to write a "quirky, character-driven, first-person" mystery. This comes about as I've been reading several of these lately like An Arsonist's Guide to Writers' Homes in New England by Brock Clarke (protagonist has very bizarre history), and The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time by Mark Haddon (protagonist is autistic teenager). I've read one or two more, but the basic thing is that the character development in these books seems almost as important as the mystery.
Anybody written this kind of stuff before? Thoughts, comments, helpful hints?
My MC will be a sort of ne'er-do-well bartender in Dallas in the late 90's. The hope is that he's a not-likeable hero, that you understand, but don't have to get along with.

Working Title: The 13 Wives of Edward Baker
Type of mystery: hmmm. Psychological thriller? with a little murder thrown in for fun.
Years in Nano: 05- Untitled/ungenred (is it okay if I make up words?) and 07 "Surviving Serengeti" middle grade fantasy
I'm in a bit of a conundrum, however. I have thought about, dreamed about, researched for and fed this idea for almost a year. Until yesterday when some sassy young thing demanded that I am the one responsible for telling her story- a chick lit no less. Now I don't know what to do. And who gave these characters permission to make demands anyway?

I thought I had replied before, but my post seems to have disappeared! Ooo... mystery!
Name- Steph
Working Title- The Black Swan Flew (ew... I actually kind of hate that title. It'll probably either change or grow on me)
Type of Mystery- Hardboiled/Noir (with a romantic subplot, because this whole thing is actually in response of a friend challenging me to write an "intelligent" romance novel, and her urging for me to flesh out my character concept of a hardboiled femme fatale detective. We'll see if I can handle it. Should be fun in any case.)
Years in Nano- First time! I've finally graduated from college and feel that I can finally spend time writing! Yay!
