Playing off the pirate thread, who's writing about ninjas this year? And how serious (or funny) are you playing them?

i has ninja!

in my world, the thaonae are an organization who run the world. there are four ruling families in merethion and from these families the ruler of the country is chosen. every time the old ruler dies, the new one is chosen and instituted by the thaonae.

there are a lot of other interesting political details, but i'm not sure anyone really cares to hear about them.

reasons why the thaonae are ninja:
1: no one knows who they are. your wife could be thaonae, but you'd never know.
2: they have mad fighting skillz.
3: they have crazy-good reflexes.
4: they wear black while on duty.
5: they are made of awesome.

I'm adding *a* ninja. He wears a demon mask when he kills as a sort of alter ego, as he only accepts assignments as an agent of righteousness (his own twisted view of morality). Think Ninjitsu plus the movies Se7en, Saw, and Phonebooth. But cooler because he's a ninja.

I have a ninja. He goes around stealing people's left shoes. Except for Tami. He steals all of her shoes just to piss her off. And he does other ninja-ly things, but that's the big one.

As always, my Mathaguri clan will be making a grand comeback. :D
Mathematical ninjas, specialising in combat using mathematical tools. (like these: http://www.4office.be/images2/421203.jpg and http://www.hema.nl/images/products/14470003_Big.jpg. Sorry, dunno how to call them in English)
They don't use calculators though. XD

After getting into Tenchu Z once again, I think that, yes, I will be writing about ninjas. It'd be a fresh breath of air to write about an ancient culture so vastly different from my own. Plus it'll be adventurous so I can work in things like romance, action, deception, revenge, and all those good things I never really get to play around with all at once.

Anybody know of a site where I can get a list of Japanese first names and surnames, and their meanings?

i changed my plot... but it's still ninjas.

an international ninja corp of sorts..... i'll be focusing on their training center and the experience of a young man who was drafted. he hates it there. all he wants to do is go home.

so.... he works his tail off excelling in his combat skills classes and then owns everyone.

sort of.

but he's not a gary stu.

he does have faults. lots of them.

XD

gee, this entire post makes me look like a middle schooler. ack.

Ahh, ninjas. I would add a couple to my novel but it's already pretty crammed in there plus I've been playing the Street Fighter RPG for a few months now and in my group I am the ninja. Let me tell you ninjitsu gets really weird when it's crossed with spanish etiquette.

I would insert a signature here but a dancing chicken stole it.

I have a ninja. She's so good you don't even see her for most of the novel! :P Although you do find the corpses of people she's quietly killed. I'm not sure yet whether she'll actually play a bigger role in the story or not. She also has the highly unfrightening name of Melissa.

I listened as Takashi Kushida Sensei told about his experiences practicing Aikido with the last ninja. He called him the last ninja because no one is trained in the old way anymore. The old training started out at age two. Nine out of ten children who underwent the old training died from it. Many of the children who underwent this training had been stolen, or kidnapped and forced into the training.

Takashi Kushida (family name last) said that this man could jump up and grab the narrow beam of the ceiling between his thumb and forefinger, and then hold himself up there with just those fingers holding him. His thumb and forefinger were so strong, like a pair of pliers, that he could rip out part of your face with them.

How his fingers became so strong was through practice. As a child, he was taught to strengthen his wrist by bending it up and down, holding a bottle. Over time, they filled the bottle with sand. Over time he would practice this, turning loose one finger after another, starting with the smallest finger. Over the years, he eventually became able to lift the bottle with just his thumb and forefinger.

The last ninja could drink up to a gallon of saki, and constrict the sphincter at the bottom of his stomach to prevent it from reaching his intestines, so he wouldn't get drunk from it. He would then throw it up later.

Takashi Kushida Sensei was a student of Gozo Shioda Sensei and Morihei Ueshiba Sensei, the inventor of Aikido, when the last ninja was practicing with them. Since then, he taught others, including Dick Moser Sensei and his wife, Lindi Moser Sensei, who in turn taught me.

Takashi Kushida Sensei, and his son, Akira Kushida Sensei, still teach Aikido Yoshokai in Ann Arbor Michigan. The organization, Aikido Yoshokai of North America (AYANA), is the result of a 1991 political split from the newly created International Yoshinkai Aikido Federation (IYAF) in Japan. At that time, all of the senior teachers of Aikido Yoshinkai had been former students of Takashi Kushida Sensei.
