I am based in Martinez and very intrigued at the idea of a local write-in.

I'm new to the area, but I do know where Martinez is.. is there something between Martinez and Concord that would be a good place? I'm game!

Checking in from Concord!

Anyone know if the owners of Berkshire Books on Clayton are going to be hosting write-ins again this year? Even though I haven't done so well the last couple of years, I love the atmosphere when I get to write there!

I took a look in Berkshire Books the other day, and I'm not sure how they hosted write-ins, unless they have card tables hiding in the back: it's not the biggest of stores, and I only saw one cafe-style table in there. What did folks do last year there? Seating seems to be an issue in the few indie bookstores that I know of.

Between Martinez and Concord is Pacheco, and the part of Pleasant Hill including Target and such. I was thinking that the cafe in one of the chain bookstores (I know, I know) might be good too, as they seem to actually have seating. Dunno about the availability of outlets for laptop folks, or their attitude on a bunch of goofy writers camping out.

Berkshire Books presents!

Yes, we'll be hosting write-ins again this year. Probably the same as in past years, Sundays from 11:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. (the store hours).

People can also drop in any time during the week, and Lynn will clear the cafe table and set up a laptop power strip for you (and also make coffee if you ask!).

mclemens, yes, it's small, and crowded, but we manage to clear enough space to get one or two folding tables where the cafe table is now; the cafe table is moved to the corner by the window, and seats two more.

Coffee/tea/drinks/treats are set up in the back.

Cool, thanks Cheryl. This may be a silly question, but are you typewriter-friendly? As a card-carrying member of the NaNoWriMo Typewriter Brigade I feel compelled to represent our loony membership and do a little noveling old-school style. This would be a little manual typewriter: pretty quiet, but not nearly as quiet as laptops.

Thanks for the reply!

Speaking of Pleasant Hill, are there any DVC students? I'm not currently taking any classes, but I still work on campus, and it would be great to meet up with any other students or faculty participating this year!

Howdy,

I'm on this side of the tunnel, having moved from Oakland this past February. Looking forward to November's kick-off. :)

Sounds good, if we can get a big enough to group to make it worthwhile. Any takers?

I'm new to this experience (and VERY excited about it!). Any recommends out there as to whether I should hook up with 2 bookstores or just 1? I'm a devotee of Berkshire Books but would also like to try out Clayton Books (closer to my home).

About Bershire Books: I was at the write-ins there year before last and it was pretty good. A large table was set up for about 8 of us and a couple of smaller tables as I recall. The guy who owns the store is hospitable with his space. If anyone knows if it's happening there this year let me know......oh, and by the way a big shout out "Hey" to the Concord wrimos.

Clayton Books would do nicely for me; I live right around the corner and that would be enough for me not to make excuses for not showing up ( or keep my word count going) . I'll keep an eye out for the "details" your'e going to post later this week.
