Hey people,

Just wondering what names you're gonna go with for your romantic leads this year. I'm gonna go with the classic "James" and "Margret" but the names don't fit them very well and I thought others might have the same problem. Feel free to comment if your own name comes up somewhere in here.

My characters names are Alexis and Creda. Creda's real name is Jennifer Credence Haley, but when she began studying Wicca when she was 12 she decided that she wanted a more exotic name and adopted & shortened her middle name. Her parents still call her Jennifer, though.

Mine are Trish (Patricia) and Andrew. Although she breaks up with Daniel before dating Andrew. The other secondary couple in the novel is Beth and Tim.

I'm a big fan of a James and Pamela romance though. ;)

I'm using Isabella and Connor; my two main characters are actors who fall in love on the set of their TV show. But everyone calls her Bella rather than Isabella...she refuses to answer to Isabella except when Connor calls her that. Before she and Connor get together, she's dating Drew - a rookie NFL player and her college sweetheart.

Marcus and Mikhail are the main ones -- though Mikhail prefers to go by Misha, and constantly question her parents as to WHY on EARTH they gave her a guy's name :"D
And then there's Adam and Lucille (who goes by Luci), and Racquel and Jarvis, Lionel and Michiru, anddd.... that's it for the most part ;; LOL I didn't have to name the majority of the characters since pretty much everyone but Mikhail and Michiru belongs to a few friends of mine xD;;; -making her novel a highschool AU with some of her and her friend's rp characters- And it's going to be one of those really cliche romances where EVERYONE gets paired off by the end lol ;; Even Marcus's annoying younger sister Melody, even though I haven't got a guy specifically planned for her quite yet xD;;; -knows she will wind up with someone because I'm a sucker for happy endings OTL;;- ♥

Daniel and Chantrea (which is Mongolian and pronounced Chan-thee-a) Though I didn't really pick Daniel, he was the only living character at the end of my last novel and I decided to write a sequel.

Mine are Anna and.... an MMC who hasn't told me his name yet. At first I called him Will, but it doesn't fit. It could be Lee. Or Brad. Or Seth, Jerome, Traise, Ian, Matt, Casey, Jeff, Malcolm, Tyler, Jed... (a few friends yelled out names for an hour over lunch. the original list is much, much longer. I can post it if anybody wants).

If he doesn't enlighten me soon, measures will get more desperate. Possibly violent.

Mine are Alicia Rothkowitz and Peter Bredon Barrington Cresset. (The former is a Russian Jew art gallery owner; the latter is a century-old vampire from a posh family.) Obviously, I like Dorothy Sayers - I had to steel myself to not name him "Peter Death Bredon Cresset" or similar, but "Death" would be the most awful name for a vampire, so.

Arthur, Jennifer, Jennifer, Elliot, Gavin, Angela, Morgan, Elliot, Tim (short for Mortimer), and Jennifer.

It's not very clear who the "main couple" is supposed to be, and it involves time travel.

My couples for this year:
- Julius and Natalia. (king and queen)
- Hatoshi and Makashi. (king Julius's royal general and the prince of the jungle, a gay couple)
- Cornelius and Tejina. (an amateuristic streetmagician and queen Natalia's royal mage)

Hmmm... I suddenly notice that in the straight couples, the boys' names end with '-lius' and the girls' names with '-a'...
I guess I must like the sound of it. :D

Cornelius and Julius are romantic names though, I really like them.

I'm using Roisin (pronounced Ro-Sheen) McKinley for my FMC and Spencer Ashcroft for my MMC. Roisin also goes by 'Ro', but only to close friends and family.

Ro's brother has been named Quinn and her friends are Adele (Addy) and Jennifer.

Spencer's friends go by Rhys and Nathaniel (Nathan) and his current girlfriend is named Chelsea.

My main characters are Enid, Taskie, and Alek. I chose Enid because it's a little out-dated and antiquated, and most of the story revolves around her being distinctly out of her element. Alek is a Korean boy born in England, so his mother and father wanted to give him English name.

Taskie has the whopper name. There's definitely a story behind this - my hometown is Houston, Texas, and there's a town nearby called Atascacita (uh-TASK-a-SEE-ta). When my little sister was much younger, she was very enamoured with this name and declared that she wanted to name her child that. I said "Sure. You could even call it Taskie for short!" And god damn if it didn't stuck in the back of my mind! When I needed a name for Taskie's character, I just knew it would have to be that.

Feel privileged: this will never, ever be explained in the story itself. I cannot justify a girl from Birmingham being named after a small town in East Texas!

My MMC is Adam since he's the first human each planet encounters.

My MFC, the planet he falls in love with, is as yet unnamed. I need to consult some sort of astronomy book. Any suggestions?

Why do you need to consult astronomy books Finn?

My main characters are Asher and Kaylee. I like less than common names I think you can tell. Though I also look into meaning and where it's from. I also have Kaylee's best friend, Wyatt. I have no other real names.

My main couple is Bryan Jones and Celia Jacobson, but my antagonists are Madison Stewart (who dates Bryan), Adrian Mitchell (who marries Celia), and Holly Morgan (who marries Bryan). Bryan and Celia are both in love with each other but they each think the other thinks of them as a really good friend.

Kevin Winter is a deaf artist, homeschooled and kept isolated from other kids by his mother, Sybil. He continues to live an isolated life after his mother's death. Some of his art contains a spectral figure peering out from behind trees, keeping watch as a guardian angel. The figure has the face of his boyhood rescuer.

Grant Tungsten, an ear specialist, once rescued Kevin from a brutal attack by three seniors when they were 16. He returns to his home town to attend his 15th high school reunion and to begin a search for Kevin, the one person he hadn't stopped thinking about.

I have a few books I'm working on. There's Elliot and Sarah. Dmitri and Cassandra. Cassie and Gabriel.

I usually don't have to think too hard about names. Characters generally come to me fully named, which is convenient.

We don't actually know of any named habitable or terraformable planets outside of the solar system yet. So you're probably better off making up names.

Olivia Creedy, who only goes by Liv (because I like Liv as a nickname but dislike Olivia. She will be introducing herself as Liv), and Benjamin (Ben) Rodanthe. I had to do a bit of thinking to come up with his name cause I have an easier time coming up with cute female names than male names. I have a secondary character called Hannah, but I haven't thought up any more names for secondary male characters.

I figured because she was a planet, I should look at what conventional naming conventions are for planets not in our solar system. I thought that there might emerge a woman's name from a more astronomical designation given to that planet by humans, especially if she might not have a name for herself, the way that many aboriginal people just call themselves "the people". She might just think of herself as "myself" while humans might call her AC1074.

Of course, there is also a need to have it reflect her character and personality. That's when the idea of naming planets after gods and goddesses comes in. Our own solar system has greek and roman and polynesian gods and goddesses represented. If that convention holds in the future, what gods and goddesses might be developed in the future? Which Old Terra cultures would dominate to lend their mythologies?

I'm probably overthinking this one and could call her Betty or Joan for now, but somehow it helps me visualize the character if they have the right name.

BTW, last year's Nano starred Leigh (pronounced Lee) and Grant. They were always fighting. :)

I usually go with kind of run-of-the-mill names. All of the animals in my house have people names. Well, except the Dude.

Dogs: Barney, Ollie (short for Olive)
Cats: Lilith (Lily), Howard (Howie and very often Bubbah as a nickname), Peter (Petey)
Rats: Toby, the Dude

Anyway, back to the characters. A few years ago I created a couple that I just fell in love with: Aleigh Monroe Collins (her middle name is after her father, though she never knew him) and Sean Michael Adlam. Unfortunately Sean doesn't work with Aleigh anymore. I love them seperately, but I just don't think they're supposed to be a couple. But Aleigh still needed a finished story. So I've paired her with Kyle Devon Windstone in my novel this year. Provided I finish it, they'll be together forever. :) I'll just have to find someone else for Sean. Or he can always be the eternal bachelor.

I'm not completely sure about planets, but I believe a lot of astrological names come from classical mythology - the Roman gods make up our planets, Greek characters from mythos make up a lot of constellations, etc. For Greek myths, I'm personally fond of the name Iphigenia (if-uh-juh-nigh-yuh). Her story sucked - dad sacrificed her so he could go fight at Troy - but I like the name. It means strong born or something like that, if it helps.

As for me, right now my characters are AG (Alpha Girl) and DiD (Damsel in Distress), just because I thought I would start confusing myself if I put girl1 and girl2 and those were the first things I came up with.

Any suggestions for historical ladies names? Right now I'm thinking the whole novel will be with the initials. Could be funny to read the conversations though..."DiD! Wait, what's going on?" "AG, look, I just can't explain right now." (Well, hopefully better dialog, but you get the idea at least). :)
