I'm trying to find the right name for my character. I know her nickname is Rennie. I've already discarded Lorenza and Lauren. Does anyone know any first names that would lead to Rennie as a nickname?

How about Renata or Raina. Or, her initials could be R. E. N., which evolved into "Rennie."

Thininking about it in a slightly different way ... her initials are REN, leading to the nickname Rennie. Rebecca Elizabeth Nasmith, or whatever takes your fancy.

Brenda or Rennet maybe?

You could really have her name be anything and just say that she goes by Rennie because she (or a sibling) couldn't pronounce her name when she was learning to talk. For instance, I know someone who's sister goes by "Titi" because when she was little she couldn't pronounce her name, Patricia. When she tried to say it she could only say "tee-tee" so the name just stuck. It's pretty common for little kids to get names wrong when they're first starting to talk. I used to call my brother, Alex, "Aleka" because I couldn't figure out the x.

Or, on the other hand, you could just never say what her full name is. After all, when someone is named Chris or Tom we don't need to know that their full name is Christopher or Thomas.

Maybe she was given a "boy's name" but a "feminine" nickname. Reynaldo, Reynald, Reginald, Renault.
