Where do you want to be Monday morning, November 17th?
This is mid-November, our Weekend of Writing Dangerously! Let's set some Dangerous goals. If you're behind, plan to get caught up. If you're ahead, plan to leave all expectations in the dust.
Here's the idea: Set a goal that's just on the edge of what you can possibly do by the end of the weekend. Make it well past your comfort zone, considering the amount of time you think you can spend, but not so far that it's not humanly possible. Make it big enough that if you don't reach it, you'll still have made leaps and bounds with your novel just pushing yourself towards it.
I'm at 16,666 right now, and I'm going to set myself the unreasonably ambitious goal of 30,000 words. If I don't make it, trying to make it will at least get me caught up or almost so.
How about you?
Let's also make this thread a place to help each other when we're stuck in our plots. The key to reaching an ambitious word-count goal is knowing what comes next in the story. Let's help each other find out what comes next!

25000, I'm at 15000 now
Going to my one and only write-in tomorrow so we'll see if a new writing environment makes the difference. I've done 10k in a day before so it's possible.
I wish you all the best in your dangerous writing exploits, may the words come easily

I'm actually going for two novels this month. I just finished one a few days ago, and got over 5,000 on the new one tonight. So far the writing is flowing incredibly well.
So my goal by the end of november is 100,000 words. Or until the second one is done.
By Monday morning? At 51,000 now, I think 75,000 would be an absurdly ambitious goal :) LETS DO IT! AUUUUUUGHHHH I LOVE WRITING!

Here's something to get us all revved up this weekend:
We're In The Big Twelve! #2, checkkitowwwt! Of course, the Lawrence, KS Municipal Liaison points out that we're not as hot as they are when it comes to words per writer... which means we gotta push it!
We'll definitely revisit those stats on Monday morning and see how we're doing.... (mwahahaha!)

That's so awesome! :o We're 2nd on that list? Pretty nifty.
I'm planning on trying to go to the write-in at Flatirons mall tomorrow, but I still don't know how well it's going to work out. :D
In any case, I'm at 22,440 words, and I'm aiming for another 10,000 this weekend! So 32,440. Ish.
Good luck to the rest of you! :)

Hmm, I was afraid to set a goal as far behind as I am after not writing hardly anything for an entire week. I had expected to be writing quite a lot last weekend in Santa Fe - the best laid plans.
But now that I've been sitting here for a couple of hours and am at 9080. I could at least set 20,000 as a Goal - even if I don't make it. Hmm, but wait, 25,000 is actually where I'd want to be by . . . err, today. Umm.
Gosh, I know it *can* be done. This is where I question why I'm doing this in the first place - my writing not being a novel at all, but a memoir, that is unlikely to be published as fiction, though it may.
Hmm, well, 25,000, that would be err . . . 16,000 words more this weekend ? Hmm, Ms Vortexae did what? 4000 in . . . 4 hours? Or was it 2? So, I'd need 16 hours? Or would it be 8? Am I willing to devote 8 hours to writing this weekend? Probably not. No. I want to read, nap, things like that.
Well, we'll see.
I simply write this to let you in on this ridiculous Word Count thread in my head.
I don't know.
Back to writing.

Those Big XII rankings are cool. Of course, it isn't really fair to be comparing us to Austin, where they have twice as many writers. The averages are probably a better measure.
BTW, where can you go on the site to get those stats by region and by genre? I remember I found it last year, but I haven't been able to find it this year.

You possibly thinking about the Word Count Scoreboard? I just found that under the "Fun Stuff" link. There's a tab for Regions and a tab for Genre.
Right now this second, it says:
#60 United States :: Colorado :: Boulder
Total words: 2,206,450
Average words: 14,143
I don't know how often it gets updated, or how exactly our friends in Kansas assembled that Big 12 list. But I know I added about 3000 to my word count since I posted about it earlier this afternoon.

I got 14,000 words today, hit it for 7 hours straight. I *love* the Dark Horse. The lack of wireless and my total lack of interest in watching sports on TV means I am doing nothing but writing when I'm there. Hopefully I will help pull us up the rankings some too! I feel mighty with my dual novel juggernauts, wild and maniac as they are.

That's excellent news! Congrats on such a marathon of a day!
I am pleased to report that I reached my absurdly ambitious goal of 30K by the end of the weekend, and my characters are doing unexpected things!
