The Sunday write-ins don't have to be the only weekly write-ins.

The Cup Day write-in doesn't have to be the only special day write-in.

Last year, we had write-ins at Complete Post, an office building where we could write in a comfortable meeting room and also use the kitchen and BBQ areas. Monique has let me know that we're able to use the building again, perhaps for a couple of Saturday write-ins if people are interested, so please post here if you are so I can let her know so she can let us know when she'll be able to swing it.

As well as that, if anyone wants to organise any write-ins on other days (or nights, or afternoons, or whenevers) or at alternate locations, since we are spread out all across Victoria here, please feel free to let us all know in this thread, and I can add them to the calendar.

Ideally a write-in location should be accessible by public transport, have enough room for a fair few people to gather (we can get anywhere from 5 to 15 people turn up, judging from past years), have plenty of power points (or you can request that people bring powerboards/extension cords), and be okay for people to have food and drink there. If you think extra chairs or cushions might be needed, mention it in your post. It might also be worth mentioning any pets that live at the venue: some people might be allergic to cats, or simply not appreciate your tarantula colony.

The lovely Scarlett Archer has once again volunteered her place for weekly write-ins. They'll be held on Sundays from 1PM onwards at Scarlett's home, which is 37 Windsor Avenue, McKinnon. If you need directions or want to confirm that people are still writing, please contact Scarlett on 0415 088 052.

The first write-in will be the 1st of November, then the 8th, 15th, 22nd and 29th unless otherwise advised.

BYO food and drink, writing implements of choice, powerboards and extension cords (if you have boards and cords available).

N.B. Write-ins are primarily focused on writing. They can be a social time as well, but if a word war or quiet writing time is in progress, please respect that.

Also, Scarlett has cats, so anyone allergic to cat dander should take that into consideration.

[STICKY] [Events] Wednesday Weekly Drinkies

NaNoDrinkies nights are our social time out from writing. They're open to all ages and this year will be held at three degrees bar brewery at QV, on the corner of Swanston and Lonsdale Streets. We usually hang out in the back right-hand corner (as you're facing into the bar from the front doors), but if it's busy I'll be wearing bunny ears the first few times to help people find us. If you get absolutely lost my mobile number is 0423 100 346.

All you need to bring to drinkies is yourselves and some dosh to be able to partake of the delicious drinks (the raspberry lemonade is a particularly fine vintage for those who aren't of age for booze) and yummy snacks or meals (with vegetarian and gluten-free options).

Drinkies begin on Wednesday 21st of October at 5.30 PM and will run weekly through to Wednesday 9th of December, starting at 5.30 PM.

I know thats a bit of a long shot.

My story is based in my web comic universe and a number of my online buddies have been dropping not so subtle hints (ok, death threats) saying they want to read it. So I've caved and am posting it for 'friends only' on a live journal account. I figure their comments will help me wade through the rewriting and editing process in December so it's all good.

So far the feed back has been positive ,so that's a big incentive to keep writing it. Also i dare not stop writing now! Another reason to go for the green.

Anxiety issues

I'm becoming aware of the fact that a lot of people in our group suffer from anxiety issues. And here I was thinking I was the only one :)

I just want to say that I think all of you are awesome for coming out to the Nano social events. I'm aware that there are at least over 350 people in Melbourne doing Nano this year; perhaps a large amount of these people are afraid to go out and socialize.

For what it's worth, I'm happy I met everyone here.

Today was my most productive, less distracted day. Its Sunday, so plenty of time to write, of course. But I hit that zone... you get in that zone and you just WRITE. You've hit literary GOLD and you need to get it OUT of you.

Nearly 7000 words today, so far. I will try and get 10k out of me in a day. Then I earn a badge! WOO! But I actually don't know if I can write any more today.

I threw a space station into a planet today. Exciting FWOAR! I know. The evil character was abandoned by his evil masters; I killed MANY people through decompression, and my MC and his girlfriend propsed to each other, while trapped in the statin as it fell to a fiery death.

Wow. It was quite a powerful writing session for me.

I now need ice-cream

Meeting in Footscray

rsi_writer has suggested a meeting at The Dancing Dog cafe for Wrimos on the West side. We could go to poetry night or meet at a different time. Hours that suit me are 9-3 weekdays, other than that I have to either arrange childcare or bring my child.

Westword Poetry is held on the 2nd and 4th Sunday of each month (the next one being on Sunday the 22nd November)

A warm and intimate evening open to Musicians and Poets alike.

Hi guys,

As an idea today at the write in whoever wants one will have a photograph taken with their name on a piece of paper. This will be easy for people to be identified and your photo will be posted so that people can know who you are.

For those who aren't going to turn up here today perhaps you could do the same so we know who you are, if you attend other write-ins or the drinkies and people don't always keep forgetting your name!

Obviously not compulsory, just a sort of 'see how we go' idea, but if you do wish to add to the collection then please take the photo of you holding a piece of paper with your NaNo name on it and email it to me at :

Question for the experienced WriMo's out there

I signed up a few days ago, was breezing along with 4,000 words in two days and then it struck me.... I didn't like my idea at all, and it was going just about nowhere really fast. ALSO! Actually thinking about where my plot was going made me think of lots of better places to take it. That would take a pretty heavy rewrite to make viable.

I know you're not supposed to edit or anything, but has anyone had this experience, where it's already XXXX words but you've had an idea and want to start from 0 again? How late is too late to start again, anyway?

I touchtype real fast so I think I could get on top of that should-be word count with a bit of effort over the weekend... anyone had this experience? Is it better trusting your instinct or sucking it up and plodding on with what you've got?

[ML Announcement] Melbourne vs. Sydney -- It's Official!

The region rivalry between Melbourne and Sydney is legendary. Forget the AFL, the Melbourne Cup, the Sydney to Hobart Yacht Race -- it's all about the word count at the end of November.

This year, we're putting our money where our mouths are.

During November, the MLs of both regions will be collecting donations at write-ins and other events. At the end of the month, all monies gathered will be donated to NaNoWriMo in the name of the winning region -- that's the region with the highest average word count per writer, just to make things fair.

It's yet another incentive to crank out those words during November. In the end both regions will benefit by helping keep NaNoWriMo running for another year. All you have to do is chip in what you can afford to -- and of course write, write, write!

I like having these daily threads.

Today I woke up late, shopped and umpired basketball.

I've squeezed an hour and a bit of writing between getting hom, and now getting suited up to go to a Gold Medal dancey performance.

Got almost 2000 words out of me. So, slow day but the daily word count was hit.

My youngest crew remember just watched the bad guy blow her dad's chest apart. She has bits of his rib cage stuck in her hair. She doesnt know this yet as she is running like blazes to get away, dragging her mother with her.

I kind of feel mean for doing it to her, but DAMN did the book jsut suddenly go up a gear! Its now frantic, and... wow.. cool.

Nano disasters narrowly averted

I'm sure there will be loads of these, but I just had a little heart stopper. Thought my lap top had been plugged in all this time but just got a message telling me there was only 10% battery life left - found the disconnected cord, crisis averted. Glad I wasn't in the loo when the message came up.
Anyone else got a Nano disaster they narrowly averted?
Other than disappearing or rapidly reproducing plot bunnies of course!

Regional Word War :: Saskatoon vs Melbourne - Friendly Taunting and Challenges!

Saskatoon is throwing down the gauntlet and challenging Melbourne to a Word War. We have several unique awards that will be given out at the end of November, but I will allow James to do the honours for that, later on in this thread. (That's your cue, James!)

In addition to the regions going up against each other, I am hereby challenging the ML of Melbourne, Lauren E. Mitchell, to an individual word war. We can watch the regional progress in our regional headers; we can watch me kick her butt in this post. ;)
