Okay, so, I made it to 1674 words within the first hour of NaNoWriMo, and I am so proud of myself! Let's see if I can keep up this rate with five classes, running a student org, and everything else going on in my life. My sister better not have her baby prematurely. If Luke interrupts my nano, I might be a little upset (jk).

How are things going?

Since we're in the process of trying to give Michigan something to cry about (besides football ;P) I decided to start this thread. I'm curious-- how are everyone's novels coming along right now? Word counts aside, how's the plot moving? Are your characters behaving? Has anything happened, yet?

For me... My characters have spent much of the last few days rebelling. My MC's sister was supposed to convince her to go to California (via the Oregon Trail), but instead...she's trying to talk her out of it. (I can't make a reasonable personality suggest something crazy, I just can't!)

The real story can't start until she leaves for Independence (or rather, arrives there), but sadly, she has yet to convince anyone that she's capable of making the trip down the Oregon Trail. I'm trying to write myself out of this, but it's not exactly working. (And last night, a random plot idea switch that will ruin the entire story...sorta, making the main love interest into That Guy the Main Female Lead Doesn't Want to Marry, But Instead Is Trying To Get Away From. I might end up editing the novel and changing it to that, if only because there needs to be some drive to the story, and my MC needs a solid reason to jump on over to another place. Darn you, random ideas!)

You've probably got them too. But it's going to be a long 30 days and since nobody wants to run short of a good procrastination...

I propose this thread for posting what you did to procrastinate today.

After five weeks decide today was the day to call your mother?
Archive your e-mail?
Spend 45 minutes trying to win Spider Solitare?
Update your Facebook page?
File all that stuff on your desk?
Voluntarily fold laundry for the first time in your adult life?

Decide today was the perfect day to feed your kids their first non-frozen dinner of the week?

i've been dealing with legal issues (against someone else) all week and that has seriously cut into my writing time. my mind is so focused on that stuff that i can't seem to let go and write.

I don't know about anybody else, but that thing that holds me back from writing (even though I do it on a daily basis) is fear.

My fears change depending on where I'm at in my story, my biorhythms, whether I talked to a published friend, a overly critical relative, the weather, after I've just read the most mind blowing novel ever...

There seems to be no real rhyme or reason to them.

In order to get them out of the way and alleviate that stomach churning anxiety that inevitably accompanies being creative, I write them down before I start. This allows me to look at them and say, "Oh. Well, screw that!"

So this is the fear thread. Write 'em down... and then punch their lights out with 1,667 words.

Main Points:

1. This is in my tinyish condo, since I don't have a laptop
2. I have 2 cocker spaniels, but my house DOES NOT smell like dog or anything like that!
3. I *just* got done dealing with a stalker last week, so please don't start stalking me once you know where I live. LOL.
4. I'm 32, normal, professional, who sells insurance with her Musical Theatre degree.
5. We can play music, bounce ideas off one another, write and have fun.

RSVP below so that I know how many people will be there. 8 max comfortably, as my condo is rather tiny.

Donations and more!

Okay columbus we're at 750.00. One more person does a 50 dollar donation we'd be at 800.00! 200 more and we'll be at 1K!

We can do it! Remember that donations go right back into NaNoWriMo, the Young Writer's Project, and Script Frenzy. Such provisions go into making non-site crashing software (Anyone remember 2007? Wasn't that a NIGHTMARE the first week as everything crashed and had to be rebooted?) and makes sure that you get stickers every year. Just as an FYI, when you buy items from the store, they don't count as donations as a lot of it does go back to the teeshirt company.

Remember, you can do research through goodsearch under OLL for those of us (m'self included) who can't afford to go do it.

Hi! How's it going? I figured we'd start this to introduce ourselves since the forums got wiped for a fresh start.

I'm Chaoticpi. I'm from Columbus, Ohio. I was born here actually. I'm a little crazy but I guess you must to be doing this for as long as I have. Since like, 2003. This is my third year as ML. Yayness.

My novel this year, is one that I"ve been meaning to write, and I figured with the pressures of NaNoWriMo it might actually get written instead of sitting in the back of my head. I've been gathering images that are based on the characters as my 'prewriting' but I'm going to leave the plotting up to what my characters do. They're some pretty interesting characters, so yeah. It's another young adult novel, although I think only two are really in school.

So lets the the forums hopping. How's it going Columbus?

'Twas the Night Before NaNo

(Note: Not written by me but another excellent ML who wrote it in october)

'Twas the night before NaNo, when all through the house
Not a keyboard was typing, not a click of a mouse.
The stickers were hung by the writer with care,
In Hopes that a Novel, soon would be there.

The Editors were nestled, all snug in their beds,
While visions of red pens, danced in their heads.
with Chris Baty in his viking hat and I in my shirt,
All the wrimo's world wide, sat waiting to work.

When out on the lawn, there arose such a clatter,
I sprang from my writing spot, to see what was the matter.
Away to the window, I flew like a flash,
Tore open the window, threw up the sash.

The moon was big, with a very bright glow
and it looked like a screen that had something to show.
When, what to my wondering eyes should appear,
But a story and eight characters.

With a little plot arc ,so lively and round,
I knew in a moment, "My Novel - I've found!"
More rapid then eagles the chapters they came
and the story whistled and shouted and called things by name,

"Now characters, Now plot arcs, now storylines and more,
"On conflict, On turmoil, On plot twists galore.
To the top of the plot line, to November's 50 K
Now write away, write away, write away today."

As dead words before the wild month fly,
When they meet with a Muse and mount to the sky
So up to my desk top these coursers, they flew
with a slew full of ideas, and my muse too.

And then in a twinkling I heard on my desk
The smattering of words, taking one last rest.
As I drew in my hand and was turning around
Appeared, did my muse, in one single bound.

It was dressed in all words, from it's head to it's foot
and it's clothes were all tarnished with erasure gook.
It's bundle of stories were flung on it's back
And it looked like Chris Baty - What's up with that?

It's eyes how they shimmered, It's dimples how scary,
It's cheeks were all blustery, it's smile so merry.
It's droll little mouth was drawn up like an "oh"
And not a beard on it's chin, that'd be freaky, ya know?

The stump of a pencil it held tight in it's teeth,
And punctuation encircled it it's head like a wreath.
It had a bright face and a round cuppa coffee
That shook when it laughed, without ever sloshing.

It was awkward and lumpy, a right crazy old elf
And I laughed when I saw it, inspite of myself.
A wink of Its eye and a twist of Its head,
Soon gave me to know I had nothing to dread.

It spoke not a word, but went straight to my desk
And It looked at my blank page then said, "Surely you Jest"
Laying its fingers aside of my keys, It winked at me once,
And slid inward with ease.

It sprang on my screen, to the words it gave whistle
and away they all flew to it, like the down of a thistle
But I heard it exclaim, err it faded into the night
"Happy NaNo to all, tonight you shall write!"

Totally Impromptu Wed Nov 4 Write-In (Clintonville/North Columbus)

Can anyone tell I love the Cup O' Joe on North High & Tulane? And that my work schedule is totally chaotic?

So, having Wednesdays totally free (and the Reynoldsburg write in being waay out of bike range for me), I'll be at the Cup O' Joe on North High & Tulane around noonish until fourish. Look for the tye-dyed long-sleeved blonde with the Mac laptop -- I usually stake out a comfy-chair near the fireplace. And count on me doing the Wednesday thing at CoJ all through November. :)

(Chaotic, I'll be at the Sunday Bethel one, too).

I'm at writing at Travonna in the Short North (or is is Victorian Village? I can never tell where one ends and the other begins!) and I'll be here until 2 or 3 PM, if anyone wants to join me! It is very slow this morning, so there is plenty of space. Lunch specials sound great too.

Actually, I plan to write here quite a bit this month, so if anyone is ever up for a weekday write-in in the Short North drop me a line!
