Synopsis: 1785, Vienna

Three separate lives become inextricably entwined in mysterious figures, courtly intrigues, and romance in late 18th century Vienna:

Angelica, an aspiring opera singer, who having been rewarded for her services as a spy in the American Revolution, decides to spend her new-found wealth to study music in Vienna. After a series of misfortunes, she meets up with an old wartime comrade, a French officer, who has uncovered a plot concocted by some of Louis XV's old courtiers, who covet influence and plan to seize it via a new mistress for the king of France. She is supposed to help discover who this mysterious woman is and put a stop to it...

Lorenzo, a struggling young castrato working in one of Vienna's second tier opera houses, finds himself alternately educating an "unpolished" young lady in the finer arts, and embroiled in a spy ring, with orders to keep an eye out for young women who are possibly being groomed to become the king's next mistress in a plot to secure the monarch's favour. What he first considered as a great way to make extra money, quickly grows to be more than he bargained for...

Sarah-Teresa, a strikingly pretty Italian girl, is whisked off to Vienna by two vacationing high-society gentleman and transformed into an elegant and refined lady back in the city. It seems as if her dreams have come true; handsome noblemen falling madly in love with her, exquisite gowns, fancy parties and dinners, but perhaps all of this effort is not without a purpose...

In the whirl of Vienna, Austria, in the year 1785, these lives and many others will not only become entwined, but entangled in the closely woven threads of fate.
