Synopsis: Argent Moon
Set during the Cold War, Russian vampires Matvey Penkov and Gosha Ivanov are tricked into going to Australia, where vampires and other supernatual creatures are kept in a concentration camp, as a precautionary measure by their government. Many of their kind are afraid that supernatural intervention might spark a nuclear war between the two superpowers of the time, the USA and the USSR. However, some supernaturals aren't so keen to back down and let the humans battle it out on their own...
Excerpt: Argent Moon
“You’re so paranoid, Matty,” I said to him, walking toward the door. “We’re fine. Home free. See?” I opened the door and stepped out into the night.
“NO!” he shouted, leaping at me, and something knocked me over. It wasn’t Matvey, that’s for sure. Adrenaline pumped through me, and I swung my arm in the direction of the thing that had knocked me over. I missed, my arm swiping through open air, and something growled. I turned on the ground and gasped.
Oh, sweet Lord. One of them. A dog. A werewolf. It was standing over me like some demon from hell, panting. It looked like it was grinning. I mumbled a prayer swiftly under my breath.
“Hail Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with thee…” The thing growled at me, and lunged at my face. My instincts kicked in, and my body moved on it’s own. I grabbed the things’ head and threw it to the side. It whimpered. Matvey was outside now, too, and he was shouting and pointing at something behind me. I stood swiftly and turned, but not quick enough. I was knocked back down again, a different dog on top of me. Crap. Not again.
I kicked at in, pushing it away, and rolled to my feet. There were three dogs in total, I could now see. Two of them were approaching Matvey, snarling. One of the two was sneaking up on him from behind silently. I shouted at him, and Matvey whirled around, bringing out his pistol and firing. I hadn’t even known that Matvey was carrying the thing until now. The bullet slammed through the dog’s head, and it flew backwards, collapsing in a heap. The other dog nearby Matvey through it’s head back and howled, throwing itself at Matvey. The beast I had dealt with joined it’s comrade, leaping at Matvey. Somewhere in the city, another howl arose, growing and fading away eerily.
