Chapter 1 - The Day I Met a Special Girl
Gladwin was riding in a truck with his farther, Raymond and his father’s friend Elijah to a school where Gladwin will start attending tomorrow to deliver a computer and its parts to someone there. Gladwin and his parents had just move yesterday from a town and it didn’t take long for they were settled at their new home and yet his parents decided to wait one day before they started word and therefore also deciding not to send Gladwin to school until tomorrow as well. Gladwin was sixteen year old boy who look young for he age. With short golden brown hair. His farther, Raymond looked just like him but older. Elijah was a much older person then Raymond with shorter brown hair and a scruffy brown beard with a mustache and beard that connected together. They arrived at the school which was named Blueberry County High School. The building was shaped differently from the other schools Gladwin had seen. The school looked like one of those towers or fortresses shaped buildings that are seen in some natural parks and beaches. Most of the building was a sky blue color with a blue tile roof circling the tower shape place. Raymond parked his truck in the visitor’s parking lot and the three took a few boxes in the side part of the school.
Inside was a small lobby where the offices were. Elijah led the two to a certain office room where they deliver the electronics to a particular employee of the school.
“Delivery!” said Elijah as he knocked on the office door.
A person who looked like he was in his late thirties or forties with a mostly bald head with brown hair on each side on his head opened the door.
“Oh, it’s here!” said the employee.
The person let the three in to set the boxes in the room somewhere.
“Thanks for delivering this stuff.” said the employee. “Uh, would you mind showing me how to put it together? I am not that could with technology.”
“Alright!” said Elijah as he took the computer and the parts that come with it out of the boxes.
As he was explaining to the person who to set a computer Gladwin became a curios of what the school looked like on the inside and wanted to take a look.
“Dad! Would it be alright if I take a look around the school?” Gladwin ask in a young voice. Not only did Gladwin had a young appearance his voice also sounded younger then an average sixteen year old boy.
“Okay! Just don’t go too far. We’ll be leaving here soon.”
“Alright!”
Gladwin took his cell phone from out of his pocket.
“Just in case I take to long you can call me.” Gladwin said as he turns on his cell phone.
“Alright!”
Gladwin left the office room and headed back to the lobby to look at it some more, but before he did he headed to the front desk to get a visitor sticker.
“Hi! I’m visiting here so could I have a visitors sticker?”
“Sure thing sweaty!” said the person managing the counter.
She gave him the sticker with school related things and smiling stars on it with the word visitor in the middle.
“Thank you!”
Gladwin put it in his cheek.
“Okay! Time to head off.”
The woman made a giggle as he saw Gladwin wear a sticker on his cheek.
Gladwin took a quick look round the lobby. On the right side of the area were three couches line on each side with a table fill with magazines and a lantern on top and a TV in the back of the area. Next to those things was a glass screen door that led to the outside where Gladwin saw a couple of students hanging out.
I never saw a glass screen door before. Gladwin said his mind as he thought how weird it was to see a door like that in a school.
Gladwin walked toward the screen door where he opened it to the outside. Exiting the building he could see he was in a courtyard with a swing in the middle of the yard and a small flower bed that stretched enough to fill the entire right side. Students in the courtyard were either busy talking to each other or playing around.
This seems like a nice place to relax. The atmosphere feels comfortable. Though Gladwin as he enjoyed the view of the courtyard.
After taking a look at the courtyard Gladwin decides to head back inside and explore the rest of the school he can.
Gladwin headed to the hallways to see what this part of the school looked it. The hallways were the same color as the outside of the building except the white that was on the ceiling, the floor that was light blue with small decoration designs on it, and the wooden light brown doors with windows to see what was in the classroom. The lockers lining the wall also were in a shade of blue.
“Blue must be the school’s color.” Gladwin thought as he saw the different shade of blue that just about surrounds the place.
Gladwin soon saw a double blue door with windows connected to the top of them. From looking at the windows Gladwin could see that behind these doors was a library.
“Good a library!” Gladwin said as he got a little excited.
Gladwin likes books, especially fantasy books and seeing a library makes him excited. Interested to see what books the library as he went inside. Entering the library he could see how huge and almost circular it was. The bookshelves were a bit in a bent shape and not straight as other book shelves were.
“Wow, this place is huge.” said Gladwin admiring the size of the room.
In front of him Gladwin could see a group of students in a middle of what it appears to be a lecture.
They must be in a middle of a lesson. Gladwin thought.
It wasn’t long before the lecture was over and an old lady was leading the students to another part of the library.
She must be their teacher. Gladwin thought!
As Gladwin watch the students leave one of them notice him standing in front of the entrance. It was a young, tan colored girl with long brown hair and shiny blue eyes. She seems to be just about the same height as Gladwin but a bit smaller. Gladwin notice that the girl was watching him and became a little nervous as he turn he turn to another direction as so she wouldn’t get the idea he was spying on them. The girl made a little giggle as she smiled at him before catching up to her classmates.
Gladwin saw her smile at him and made a little blush on his face. Putting that aside he began to explore the library.
The first section Gladwin wanted to see was the section that had the fantasy books which was the fiction section. As he searched for that section Gladwin saw what appeared to be out of place. It was a barn owl. The owl took notice of Gladwin as he watched it perched in front of a window.
“Wow it’s an owl. I wonder what it is doing in a place like this.”
Gladwin reached out his hand as to pet it and the owl lowered its body as to let Gladwin touch it. After a giving the owl a couple of stokes it flew to Gladwin’s right shoulder where it perched there.
“So I guess you want stay with me for a while.” Gladwin said as he was happy that the owl decided to stand on one of his shoulders.
Gladwin continued to search for the fiction section and soon found it. It didn’t take him long to find a few fantasy books.
“Yeah! Here are some.”
As Gladwin took a quick look thru one of the fantast titles the owl flew off his shoulder to somewhere else.
“Hey where are you going?” Gladwin ask curiously quickly putting the book back on the shelf Gladwin followed the barn owl. Searching the place it didn’t take him long to find barn owl standing on a table which seems to belong to the librarian.
“Good! So that’s where you were.” Gladwin said relived.
Gladwin pet the owl a few more times before someone came by to speak.
“Hi! I see you have met Snow.”
Stopping what he was doing Gladwin saw the same old woman that was with the other students.
“Oh hi!” greeted Gladwin.
“I can see you are a visitor here. Do you like the place so far?”
“Yes and I will be attending this school tomorrow.”
“That’s terrific!” the woman said with a smile. “You’ll like it here.”
“Yeah! By the way, is this your owl?” ask Gladwin.
“In a way yes. He belongs to the whole school actually. Snow is the school’s mascot.”
“Oh!” said Gladwin who was a bit surprise.
The woman then introduced herself.
“My name is Mrs. Jaci and I’m the librarian here.”
Oh, so she’s a librarian. Gladwin thought.
“My name is Gladwin and it’s nice to meet you.”
Gladwin turned his attention to Snow.
“You too Snow!”
Gladwin turn his attention back to the Mrs. Jaci.
“Well, I have to go now.” Gladwin said as he began to think it was time for him to leave the library.
“Alright! Have a nice day.”
“Okay! See you tomorrow!”
Gladwin turned his attention to Snow.
“Goodbye Snow!”
Gladwin headed out the library as the librarian watch him leave with a smile along with Snow.
Gladwin decided head to further down the school before turning back to meet his dad and Elijah. He came to a part of the hallway that had columns on the left and outside those a view of another court yard that was even bigger then the other one he visited and another died of the school. The courtyard below was cover in more stone and in the middle was a fountain shooting water out. There were a couple of plants covering some parts of the place. Mot of which were flowers.
“Wow, it’s so big. “ Gladwin said amaze at what he was seeing.
“You like it?” ask a voice.
Gladwin turn to the direction to where the voice was coming from. It was the girl he saw at the library earlier. Seeing her made him blush.
“Uh, yes!” Gladwin answer in a nervous voice.
The girl smiled.
“Okay, I was asking.” She said.
“Uh, were you in a class a while ago?” Gladwin asked.
“Yes, I was delivering a message to a teacher.”
“Okay!”
“So what’s your name and what school are you from?” the girl ask
“My names Gladwin and I use to attend Ashford Academy. I’m supposed to go to this school tomorrow.”
“Wow that’s great!” the girl said exited “My names Cara and I’m in twelfth grade.”
Wow, she looks young to be in twelfth grade. Gladwin thought.
“What grade are you in?” Cara asked!
“Eleventh! So, I’m a grade below you.” answer Gladwin!
“Alright!”
Gladwin notice Cara holding a book called “Eragon.”
“You like Eragon.” Gladwin ask
“Yes! It’s one my favorite books.”
“Mines too!”
“Do you have all three books?”
“No, only the first too. What about you.”
“I have all of them. I’m just rereading the first one. I already read all three books.”
“Man, I haven’t even finished reading the second one.”
“How far did you get?”
“Not that far! Probably two and a half chapters of it so far. It has been a while since I read it.”
“Then finish it!” Cara said, “You’re way behind!”
“I know!” Gladwin said a little disappointed in himself. “So, I guess you like fantasy, right!”
Cara nodded “Mmm-hmmm! I think it’s the best of all the genres.”
“So do I!” Gladwin said a bit excited.
Cool!”
Gladwin walked with Cara backed to the library as they talked.
“So, how was the last school you went to?” ask Cara
“Alright, but not that good.”
“Oh, why not?”
“Because I couldn’t relate well to the other people their. A lot of the people their act too serious and some of them like to smoke and I hate smoke.
“So do I! Also it seems that you must have been stuck with a lot of dull people. People that young shouldn’t act so serious. They should enjoy their lives while their still young.”
“Yeah!” agree Gladwin “But my English Class was fun at least. Everyone was nice and easy so it was easy to talk to them and so was the teacher. It just had a nice atmosphere.”
“That’s nice!” Cara comments as they arrive at the entrance of the library.
“I have to go now. I hope to see you tomorrow.” said Gladwin
“Me too! I think we could become good friends.”
“Gladwin agreed with what she said. For once Gladwin had a feeling of belonging. A feeling he hadn’t felt in a long time. He really hoped that they would meet each other tomorrow. Saying their goodbyes Gladwin headed back to the lobby where he saw his farther and Elijah just leaving the office.
“Oh! You’re back just in time son.” said Raymond, “How was your little tour? Do you like it?”
“I love it!” Gladwin said with a cheerful smile his on his face. “I’m looking forward to coming here tomorrow.”
Raymond and Elijah smiled
“I’m glad!” said Raymond
The three headed out the school and into their truck where they drove back home. Leaving the school behind on a happy, sunny day.
