Excerpt: Rehearsal Series: Book 3
My first 277 words, started at 12:01 am Nov. 1st...
“Are you ready for this?” Evan studied his friend’s face. Playing in front of a huge crowd had never bothered Duncan before, but he was bothered.
Shrugging, he tried to blend in with the rest of them, not making an issue of the fact they were playing in Edinburgh, his hometown. Or that the throngs greeting them outside the airport, gathered around the outside of his parents’ house, and nearly blocking the band’s way in to the venue were heavily there for him. For the band. But especially for him.
“It’s strange to see you so nervous.”
Duncan raised an eyebrow. “An’ who says I am nervous?”
Evan threw a grin.
“Yea’ maybe a bit. I canno’ imagine why they are making such a scene. It is no’ like many of them knew I existed when I was livin’ here. Or would ‘ave wanted t’ know.”
“They know now. Of course you have your brother to blame for some of this.”
“Yea’ and I will be talkin’ t’ him about making a big deal ou’ of me playin’ here, abou’ too much damn focus on me. I told him I didnae want that. It should ‘ave stayed about the band as a whole.”
Evan set a hand on his shoulder. “You deserve this. You’ve earned it. Go out there and enjoy the hell out of it.”
Duncan kept his eyes. “You are less nervous than usual.”
“Well.” He glanced over at where Susie was joking with Stu and Danny and Laura. “With all the attention on you, no one’s going to pay much attention to me. A relief, really.” He laughed when his friend shoved him away.
