My novel is kind of centered on the concept of things that come in threes. The trouble is, I'm having trouble thinking of things. All I have so far is the three Magi and the three little pigs. Can you think of anything else that is usually grouped in threes? It really doesn't matter what it is, I just need some more examples.

Any ideas appreciated :) Thanks in advance.

Three Faces of Eve (sorry I couldn't resist)

Many Greek plays have a large theme of three as do Shakespeare's plays.

Some of these are rather random, but they might help.

My mom says that death comes in threes.
Someone else in the family says sneezing three times is lucky.
There are also the three fairies from Sleeping Beauty.
Three blind mice.
Three points on any plane will be level. [geometry]
In video games, the Legend of Zelda uses three for lots of things like goddesses and relics.
A more obscure video game example is Elite Beat Agents and Ouendan, they are 3 man teams.
I steep my tea for three minutes. [important for NaNo. =) ]
American electrical sockets have three holes for three prongs.
Electron, proton, neutron make up an atom.
Three primary colors: blue red yellow [paint] cyan yellow magenta [print] red green blue [light waves]
Lock combinations are often a group of three numbers. [12-30-23]

And there's a sub-genre of Gaelic satire called 'triads' (not like the Chinese!) in which things are threed; a famous one (I can't find the original in Irish, but if you're desperate I'll ask around if you PM me): "Three things that are costly to an Irish person: the hoof of a horse, the tooth of a hound, and the smile of an Englishman."

Another: "Bean bhreá nó capall bán nó tigh ar ardán: sin trí mhallacht an clutharacháin" - "A lovely woman or a white horse or a house on a height: those are the three curses of a leprechaun".

The holy trinity (Father, son and Holy Ghost), or the Pagan trinity (Maid, mother and crone).
There are the three stages of life (as some crudely put it hatches, matches and dispatches meaning birth, marriage and death).
There's also a rule of three in comedic timing, where you should always leave your funny thing until third in a list of not funny things because that will make it funnier.
There's a good novel, which I'm actually reading at the moment, called "Instances of the Number Three" by Salley Vickers, and there's a quote from teh philosopher Bertram Russell about three in the front, which unfortunately I've left at home -- you could try Googling it, though.
There are the three witches in Macbeth, the three sisters in King Lear, I'm pretty sure there are also three Merry Wives of Windsor, and three marriages in The Taming of the Shrew.
I was about to say three Die Hard movies, but there's another one now, isn't there?
Three months in a quarter, three chemical states of being (Solid, liquid and gas), three grammatical stages in a sentence (Subject, verb and object).

Hopefully that's enough to be going on :)
