Dear Bay Area Wrimos,
While many of you may be excited about the wafting smells of roasted bird and mashed treats in a casserole dish, there is something else to look forward to! Next Friday, December 5, is the Pan-Bay TGIO party! It will be held from 8 PM - 11 PM at Root Division (www.rootdivision.org), located at 3175 17th Street, San Francisco, CA.
There will be crowns, a raffle, and a (completely voluntary) reading of NaNoNovel excerpts, as well as some free LiveJournal T-shirts and vintage SuperNano! T-shirts from 2004. It is an all-ages event, and your cheerleaders and significant others (and friends, neighbors, and fellow writers) are welcome, too! Whether you won NaNoWriMo this year or not, we want to see you there.
Don't forget to bring two different one-page excepts from your NaNoNovel for the wall display. (You should print them out in a large font, as the venue is a bit dark!)
While drinks and snacks are available, there won't be dinner at the event. If you'd like to have dinner in the city beforehand, Root Division is located in the Mission District of San Francisco, which is overrun with fantastic restaurants.
If you or anyone you know would like to volunteer your time to set up or take down the party, you can contact Tavia at tavia_stewart@nanowrimo.org. If you have any questions, feel free to email me at lindsey_grant@nanowrimo.org
We can't wait to celebrate you and your wordy accomplishments!
Lindsey and the NaNoWriMo team

Any chance we can get a forum roll call to see who is going to be there?
I sure as heck plan to be!

Rebecca and I are going for sure, but I don't know yet how we plan to get there! There is a BART station nearby but I don't really want to be walking from there to Root Division alone in the dark on a Friday night...it's not in the prettiest part of town.
It would be GREAT if some of the fantastic, car-possessing wrimos of the East Bay who are planning on attending would be so gracious as to offer themselves up for carpooling? I, for one, am more than willing to pay for gas -- it's a small price for not having to wrangle with public transit at 11 at night.
If no car-possessing people are going, and people still wanted to meet up, perhaps we could plan to BART together from a convenient station?
Thoughts and comments of all sorts are welcome!

I can get a ZipCar for the night, if people need a ride...although parking in that area is REALLY rough. I also volunteer my services as security for walking people the two blocks to and from BART. I can look pretty menacing when I want to...grrrr!
Edit to add: Incidentally, to people considering driving vs. BART, it is almost guaranteed that you will have to walk FARTHER from where you park than it is from BART...just something to think about.

Lily (aurialis) and I (Jordy/chigaijin) are probably going, but may or may not be staying the whole time. We have no car but could join a BART party.

Seems like we've got quite a BART party going on! What BART stops are you all leaving from? Maybe it would be possible to organize meeting up at one specific station that's "on the way" for everyone to catch a train to the Mission together?

I'd like to join the bart party! It seems easier than driving and parking, and if there are lots of us then it won't be so scary to walk back to the station late at night. According to trip planner, Root Division is just a nine minute walk from the 16th st mission stop.

Does BART still run at 11 pm? Because I'm all for going in a group. I kinda have a ride, but she was bored by last years party and will probably back out last minute. I'm already planning public transport as backup.
Or, if anyone else is offering rides from Oakland, I'll chip in for gas money! *tempt, tempt*

BART runs at least until midnight, so you should be completely alright BARTing that late. I took BART last year and it worked out just fine.

Hey,
I was all set to drive and then the posse got way too large for my ride and now seeing all the BART-party posts I am leaning in this direction. I think it would be awesome to roll over together. So, I propose meeting at either the Ashby or the Downtown Berkeley station for an 8p train?
Thoughts?

I'll be there. I went last year and walked from BART alone to and from. It was fine. It's the Oakland side that's more worrisome! So maybe folks want to leave SF together, and exit BART in the East Bay together? MacArthur (or Rockridge) is my stop. I'll be working the merchandise counter at TGIO.

For those afraid of walking from the 16th Street station... I'm a skinny 5'5" female, but I am employed full-time in a position that requires that I use manual restraint on violent individuals on a daily basis, and I live in a pretty dangerous area of Oakland. I'm not afraid to walk a mile from the Fruitvale BART to my house in the middle of the night by myself, and I'm certainly not afraid to walk in the Mission District under similar conditions. (I lived between 22nd and 23rd Street for quite some time, Oakland has given me either some perspective or idiotic courage, haha.)
At any rate, if anyone wants to walk from the 16th Street BART station in a group (might be easier than trying to meet at a BART station on the other side of the pond), I have really short brown hair, wear red plastic glasses, and will be wearing an obnoxious yellow zip-up sweatshirt with blue racer stripes up the arms. Shoot me an FPM.

I vote for something close to 8pm.

Unfortunately there's a transfer at MacArthur, but that would just be meeting up with rkammer. *grin*
I checked, and trains are ~every fifteen minutes, taking about half an hour to go from Downtown Berkeley to 16th/Mission (and presumably slightly less from Ashby). Us Berkeley residents can get on one stop earlier than anyone parking at Ashby and join you all there, on whatever train is decided upon.

Hi, nice to meet you all. I haven't had much/any of an online presence, as I've had to sneak in all my writing between 11pm and 1am this month. Anyway, my plan is to hit the party later, after a small dance performance I'm in.
Not sure whether/how we East Bayers might meet up within the larger party, but it would be nice to meet you all.

I'm planning on going tonight-- as of yet, I still haven't figured out all the details of my travel plan. Definitely BART (from El Cerrito Del Norte)... are many people meeting at Ashby? What time? Who's planning on leaving early-- I'd have to, I'll be taking a bus home, and they stop before midnight. I'll check back in to see others plans.
Hope to see you all there!

Okay, right now I think the plan as I understand it is that those of us meeting up in the Berkeley area are planning to meet at the Ashby BART station and ride together from there? I know it's more convenient for me to go from the Downtown Berkeley BART, and I know I'm not the only one. Probably what we should do is pick a specific train leaving Ashby that we will all plan to be on.
Trains leave Ashby at: 7:49pm, 8:04pm, 8:19pm, and 8:34pm. Shall we say we'll all be on that 8:04 train? Does that sound like it would work for you? If it does, let us know so we know who we're supposed to be meeting! That way if anyone's late we can perhaps take the next train instead of deserting them.

That sounds like a good plan, 'cept doesn't the party start at 8? Everyone has to arrive fashionable late? :)
I may actually stay in the city, since I work until 6:30, and meet up with y'all either at the party or at the 16th St. BART. If anyone feels like they need/want an escort from BART to Root Division, drop me a NaNoMail and I'll give you my contact information.

Is it easier to just name the final destination point (w'/c BART station... for ex. 16th St.), and then give a rough time frame of when we will all be meeting there, and what exit/landmark.
I'm dropping you a NaNoMail right now, JW...

I'm planning on parking at Ashby or Rockridge and heading over early to help with setup, but I'm definitely eager to leave in a group at the end of the party. I'll be working merch the latter half of the event so I'll be easy to find. :)

That sounds like a better idea, I'd say. But I don't know if we'll have time to coordinate that! All I know is that Rebecca and I are planning on meeting up with some people at Downtown Berkeley BART station at around 7:45 and making the trip together. Getting back home may be another story.
See you all there!

Wow! I've missed a lot! Although I'm coming from Lake Merritt, I'll be at the Ashby BART at 7:30. I won't have a sign to hold but I'll be holding up my pregnant wife. ;)
Tonight is going to be BOSS!
