Excerpt: A 2008 Nanowrimo Novel

"...ensure your seat backs are up and tray tables stowed."

The automated security messages always brought a smirk to 2nd Lieutenant Jackson "Jax" Amblard's face. The security warnings were a relic from the early days of station-to-station flight, well before the days that inertial dampeners and shipboard gravitational fields became a reality. These days, the cabin barely registered a shudder as the ship undocked and left the station's gravity field. In fact, short of a catastrophic event, spaceflight, at least commercial passenger spaceflight, felt very much like like being on the station, the only difference being the gentle bass hum of the engines at cruising speed.
