The protagonist, self-reflecting on the increasing commercialization of the Christmas holiday throughout his life, struggles against corporations and religious organizations to bring back the mystery of Santa Claus and the true spirit of the holiday.
Excerpt:
“Ms. Asner,” he said as he dried his palms against the lining of his jacket pockets, “just answer me this. Exactly how did you come up with this brilliant decision?”
“I didn’t make this decision lightly. In fact, I –“
“If you go through with this, you’re absolutely crazy! How does this even seem remotely like the right decision to make?”
“Well, at first –“
“I don’t know how you’ll be able to live with yourself after this brilliant idea.”
“Sir!,” she said in a raised but stern voice, “if you want to continue this conversation with me, then you’re going to have to lower your voice and let me speak. If your intent is to bitch to me about how unhappy you are about this decision, then there’s no need to proceed any further, as you’ve already done so for five minutes. But, if you wish for me to answer your concerns, then you’re going to have to give me a chance to speak.”
“Fine. Tell me all about your brilliant decision.”
“As I was saying, this decision was not made lightly -”
“It’s all about the profit… the bottom line… How much you can rake in… Isn’t it!”
“We’re done here,” she said as she pointed to the door. “We’re done! I refuse to continue this conversation! You need to leave! Leave now!”
The man swallowed hard, scowled, and abruptly turned to the door. “F****** b****,” he muttered as he exited.
