Two high school sweethearts are separated by World War II. Both are forced to mature and grow up. What sort of people will they be once the war is over? Will they decide to rekindle their love or remain apart?

Andrew grimaced. If he married Phoebe as everyone expected him to, he knew he would forever be a statistic in the Rosingston population of 10,000. He would never have his chance to move out of New York, see the world, try new things, and learn new dances. If luck was on his side, or God, whichever one, he might even be able to find a girl. A girl who was not looking to be married by twenty-two and have four kids by the time she reached twenty-five. All Andrew wanted was a girl who did not hold onto marriage as if it were the pot of gold at the end of a rainbow.
