Excerpt: Just Forget the World

“I-”

“If you say you don’t like this, Tyn, I promise you I will imbed the words in your flesh in any way this city holds possible, so you don’t have to keep saying them.” Jairdan cut in cheerfully. “You don’t like how this all feels, I hear you.”

“You’re only grumpy because you’re starting to agree.” Tyn separated herself from him pointedly. “And don’t be nasty to she who is carrying your child.” She added, in such a tone that only let him know how she really thought of such a cover story.

Jairdan was about to reply, when two shadows dropped from a tree which curved up tall above them, and without thought they both pulled their weapons – their simple blades looking identical to those pointed at them.

“I would be right to assume you two here have been sent?” the taller shadow spoke, his voice eerily low. He, like the other, was cloaked in a dusky dark robe from head to foot, and not an inch of skin could be seen on him, even that holding the blade a foot away from Jairdan’s throat.

“Depends who’s asking.” Jairdan retorted, but Tyn relaxed her stance straight away.

“You’re assassins.” She guessed correctly. “Then I suppose you’re our contact?”
