Synopsis: Swiftbeak
Jade, an introverted elf, prefers not to work with others. She works as a Ranger for King Oryn. When she comes across a baby Red-Tailed Hawk whose parents were taken from him, her life is changed - possibly for the better. Not long afterwards, Oryn's kingdom falls under attack. The king offers her a large sum of money to spy on the Kelgden with another warrior. Jade's heart is torn. She wishes to care for her hawk named Swiftbeak, but doesn't want to admit it.
Out of her dilemma comes a group of adventures that make Jade realize it's not that bad to have a few friends in an adventure after all.
Excerpt: Swiftbeak
[King Oryn said,] "... and it is my great pleasure to celebrate with you this day our twentieth year of peace and prosperity."
Cheering ensued, while Oryn held his hand out to quiet down the crowd.
"It has been a long and tiresome journey for many of us. I know some of you fought tooth and nail to get here. Others, I have only briefly met. However, despite our differences, we should all keep in mind that we are all a vital part to this Academy, as it is to us. Through the years, we have nurtured and cared for her, and in return, she has offered us shelter and protection from evil and every malice. So this morning, before we all get taken up into the excitement of the day, I would like to raise a toast to our twenty glorious years at this Academy. May there be many many more."
"Hear, hear!" came the uproarious response. There were many glasses clinked as everyone there drank to their prosperity and peace.
