Synopsis: The VIRtual ALternative
In a world of digital life where the characters are the files and components and the evils of the world are viruses, Rekheba tracks viruses for the AV company Synnon in New Cad city. He is given a apprentice in the seer Eve. When even her powers can't track a virus which shows up with frightening regularity and astonishing strength, it isn't just the city that is in trouble.
Excerpt: The VIRtual ALternative
He ran on towards the exit, hearing the things jump up behind him, their clawed hands scraping and clicking on the platform surface. More came up ahead of him. There must have been about fifteen of them in all, each one grotesque, green, almost a liquid or fur on their skin making them shift and bristle.
(I can help you win. You could tear every one of them apart,) it hissed.
“Don't be fucking stupid,” Rekheba huffed, looking behind him at the ones that were approaching. “They outnumber me horribly.”
(Close your eyes. Make this easier on yourself. Give in. Give up.) Rekheba cringed, but the more the thing in his head told him to do it, the more sense it made. If he tried to resist it would only be more painful.
As soon as he made the decision to give up, everything went blank.
