Synopsis: This Parable
Um... I, as always, find myself unable to cut it down enough to write something along the lines of a blurb.
Please ignore the dodgyness of the excerpt :P
Excerpt: This Parable
Kcirt’s skin crawled warningly. Something was in the room; and that something probably wasn’t friendly. A shadow snaked towards the door. Kcirt slammed the door shut and listened in shock as something scabbled at it. His breathing was ragged as he held the door shut, scared out of his wits. It seemed to him, from brief glance, that the creature was a snake, just with the head of an insect. But that was impossible! No wonder everyone was panicked. But in his short look, the room had looked like a living suite. If the other rooms were the same, then he would be able to change clothes into something more... noble.
Kcirt screamed and jumped back. A long fang ripped through the door and thrashed around, trying to get out. Kcirt backed away, and ran down the hall to the next door. He tried the handle, but it was locked. He shot a panicked glance back at the half-broken door. The creature was trying to wriggle its way out while keeping its eyes on Kcirt. The creature shot free, and hissed in triumph. It didn’t even occur to Kcirt to try a different door, he just desperately rattled the door he was at harder, hoping for a miracle.
The door swung open, dragging Kcirt with it. Kcirt slammed into someone, and he looked up with pleading eyes at the surprised man. The black and brown haired man looked like a fighter of some type, so relief flowed through him. The man spotted the attacking snake and pushed Kcirt behind him. It was then that Kcirt noticed that there was a baby in the man’s arms.
The snake creature whipped at the man, Kcirt watched in amazement as it split up the middle in mid-air. It didn’t split completely, the head remained intact. The two tail ends had poised in the air in front of its head, ready to skewer the protective man.
This happened in barely any time at all, but the man was quick as well. In the time it took for the snake to reach them the man had passed the baby over to Kcirt and leapt onto his hands.
The man flipped over, his boots crashed into the snake and hurled it to the floor. The man landed on top of it and twisted his heels, tearing the creature apart.
The man stepped off the greusome pile of blood and guts and wiped his boots with an expensive wall hanging before looking at Kcirt.
