Good luck, cowboys! And we do deserve our own category. Oil that Winchester and put your spurs on.

I'm in, and agreed on the fact that we need our own genre. It is an American Institution, the western.

I'll third that motion, with all the power of my four posts behind me.

Heck yes we need our own genre board!

I'm so glad NaNoWriMo's here-- and it's not going too poorly for me, 3100 words and counting! Hoorah!

So how is everyone doing? Struggling along? I'm feeling all right about my story so far, which is better than last year :P

While I certainly empathize with y'all (I wrote a western last year), we had this same protest back then and the answer was "use the adventure forum". I'm guessing that'll be the law round these parts this year too...

Hmm... 'y'all' is more of a southern thing. Unless you live in Texas. Then by all means, 'y'all' away!

Last year right about...NOW... I was drooling over my keyboard, waiting for my novel to start.
This year I've got a little more than 8,300 words under my belt, and ready for tomorrow!

I'm afraid that later this month the psychologist offices will be flooded with the brain-dead contestants of NaNo.

I'll start saving my money for when it's my turn.

Well, here it is the sixth day and I just posted 10,501 words. So far I have stayed with my outline and am pretty satisfied with the story. What worries me is that I'm beginning to wonder where my characters are going. It's come to the point where they are taking over and are going to change the ending. But I guess that's what it's all about. They probably know what's best, so maybe I'll just go with the flow, and to hell with the outline. I've already had two saloon confrontations, and it looks like the ending is going to be bloody. I'm not sure how many vaqueros are going to get it, so I'll have to wait and see. Louis L'amour said he was always glad to get back to work so he could find out what was going to happen.
Sorry to be so windy.

Hey, it looks like I'm writing a western. Or else sort of a western/steampunk hybrid. I just wish I knew more about the time period! Has anyone found some good resources online?

Well, I'm writing this on the 20th, and I'm only at 19,000 words. I don't know if I can catch up or not. Now that my wife is finally over the flu I don't have to check on her every minute. So I guess I'd better get back to my cowboys and villians. I hope the rest of you are doing better than me.

Well, I finsihed NaNo word wise, and haven't even got to my cowboys yet. I have a bunch of kids who go up in the mountains to move cows down, but that's not really a western. I've got so many planned plots that i ahven't got to yet that i cant' see straight.

I have been doing well, up until this week. Classes have been getting in the way of my story, unfortunately. But no more! I hope to catch up this weekend.

Mine's a spaghetti western.

It involves touring cyclists on a trip through CA, NV and AZ, a guy on a horse, and great whopping plates of spaghetti. :)

So, now that NaNo's over for this year, how's everyone feel about that? You happy with your stories?

For my part, I think it came out pretty well. Better than I'd hoped.

I got to 50,028 on the evening of the 29th. The story took some turns I didn't expect, but stayed pretty much with the outline. I do have to say that I am pretty tired of cowboys and bad grammar. On the other hand, I am looking forward to re-writing the beast. But I'm going to give it a rest for a week or so. For the most part, I am happy with it. If I should try NaNo again next year, I will definitely start with a better, much-expanded outline.

Sadly, I never really got to the western part of my novel. I'll write it eventually, if I ever get a brain back. I agree with Chris--my brain is all spongy right now.
