What's your first sentence?

I have a character making a history book, and that's his first sentence.

Okay, so this is the first three sentences, but I needed the whole paragraph:

"Kenneth Vinson sat drumming his fingers against the arm of the chair, waiting for Nerissa to arrive. They had quite an evening planned. First, they would watch a performance of some of the most talented sorcerers in Malaya City. They would enjoy some light refreshments, followed by an assault on the Keightite embassy."

Almost sounds like it's going to be morbid, but it's not, lol.

My first sentence is pretty cliched without the one following it. So here are my first two sentences:

"Two hours ago, a series of unfortunate events made Paul believe today was the worst day in his life. But as his soul slowly withered and boiled in the lava-filled cauldron while the cries and wails of The Damned echoed off of Hell's cavernous walls, he reconsidered his original opinion. "

Mine won't make any sense without the next sentence or two, but here is is.

"Alone. Secluded. Remote. Lonely. Isolated.

All words that mean the same thing, all words that speak of a frame of mind and a way of life for my people. In the kingdom of Aralain, everyone is connected, everyone means something, and everyone has a place in their way of life. Except for us."

Another semi-alcoholic character returns to consciousness on the pages of a nano novel!!

The history of the tree was the history of the land. Small beneath its oaken mass, Brinn's finger idly traced a scar across the bark as he looked down into the valley; an expansive nothingness of scrub grass impressive only in its insignificance.

"Alcatraz" is temporary until I find a more original name!

Mr. Pennyworth and a balding man strode past the walls and locked doors of the Alcatraz prison housing the most dangerous criminals in the world.

"The snowdrifts that surrounded my feet shocked my body with cold, and, though November had just begun, I knew the snow would begin its slow descent on our town, freezing small chunks of ice in the ocean that I watched every night. "

A bit of a metaphor for the destruction that befalls the town, eh? Anyway, it's one way to get 42 words into a novel.

Of the Louisiana Elsewheres - The Red Sticks crashed and burned two weeks in a row!

Unfortunately, there'll be many contradictions to this later.

"It was dark in the attic - well, it would be, wouldn’t it, no one thought of adding such niceties as windows when the only people likely to be up here were the servants."

And the rambling only gets worse.

"The door in the tree opened and a tiny figure fluttered out, her delicate wings keeping her airborne."

Wow that sounds so incredibly cliched, like I'm about to start a kid's fairytale - maybe the new adventures of tinkerbell? I could sell it to Disney!

8U I can see myself falling prey to the Faulkner-long sentence sometime soon. MEEP.

First few sentences:

“What’s he so upset about?” Karinna shouted, pointing to Gwin as she splashed across the causeway.

“Another of his mother’s sons got murdered!” Iyen hollered back. “Went over the falls, brain went smush. Probably bits of it swirling around your feet right now,” he added cheerfully.

NaNo 2007 - Untitled - complete at 59,837 words!
NaNo 2008 - Katabasis and Untitled - reached 38,250 words and took a break for university. And then got meningitis. Suffice it to say I didn't win. Hope to finish in December!

Um, I'm not too fond of the way my prologue starts, but here it is:
