What is WRONG with me? !! ?
I didn't even originally expect Nathan to have much impact... he's a supporting character - the driver and bodyguard for Pete's sake! But NOW I think about him constantly! I go out and about and I'm always looking for a Nathan! Nathan at the grocery store. Nathan at the pool. Nathan in the airport. Nathan Nathan Nathan!
And he's knocked the original love interest off into the rough, causing me quite a bit of recalculation about what needs to go where in the plot!
I'm in love / lust with my imaginary friend.
Ugh!

I fell for a lot of my characters and it's not really a problem. I usually have a cast of main characters and so adding another one bcause i love tehm although they should only be a supporting character isn't really a problem. And it gets better.

I know what you're going through. My first attempt at a novel introduced a character named Drew who was supposed to be the antagonist. Somewhere along the line I fell so hard for Drew that he fell in love with Emerald. The scenes I wrote for the two of them still make me cry!
And my new male lead Conner is the same way. He's my ideal everything. The way he looks, the way he acts. The way he lifts an eyebrow when Emerald says something absurd. He's calm and collected and intelligent and believes passionately in everything he stands up for. He doesn't half-do anything and I find myself wondering why I can't find a Conner of my own.
It might not ever get better, but don't get rid of Nathan, he gives you the spark you need, even if he follows you around in real life.

Oh, I have SO been there. One year I developed such a crush on a character that he went from one scene to half the novel.
I take it as a sign that I am writing likable believable characters and don't let it get to me any more. Now I just enjoy writing them! (My inevitable crush hasn't shown up this year - he's due to appear around chapter six.)

I think it's totally awesome that you have a character you can set your heart on. I would think it makes writing a lot more enjoyable. Right now I am writing a section where my FMC has met a man she describes as a gorilla and it's not so pleasant to write, she wants out and doesn't quite know how since she is already locked in a lease with the guy, oh, and he's about to call her an obsessive-repulsive to his friends, which she overhears. He's an ***.
I hope I develop a crush on the next man she meets.
Have a great writing day everyone!

My pastor mc just showed up and has such potent masculinity that my fmc and I fell in love the second he appeared. Only he's so conservative at the moment that he has no clue that half the town is swooning over him. He's like the forbidden apple that everyone wants to taste.
BTW- I love the obsessive-repulsive comment. Too funny!

I haven't had that problem yet this year, but...
Once upon a NaNo, I was trying to figure out who to invite to my uncle's wedding. And I woke up one morning and thought, "Why do I keep freaking out about this? I'll just bring Will."
Then I paused and remembered that Will was a character in my latest novel and, therefore, not an ideal wedding date here in the real world.

LMAO brilliant.
I tend to think that if you fall for a character then it's a good sign about the way you're writing them, especially if something is spposed to be a romance.
I have a minor crush on my current MMC, and a big crush on a supporting character who I have totally based on a real life person who is too adorable. Unsurprisingly, my FMC also has a crush on him.

Those crushes can be a good way to get the story to go where it needs to go... when I first started writing my other (non-nano) novel, one of the main 20-something characters had four siblings, none of whom (I thought) were really integral to the story. In fact, I ended up yanking the two older siblings because they added nothing. The two sibs remaining were a spoiled, princessy 14-year-old sister, and an artsy but troubled 17-year-old brother. The brother was supposed to be a sort of sidebar, whose run-ins with the law distracted the MC from her career and relationship, but somehow he started hanging out with his sister and her friends, the legal troubles magically dissappeared from the story, and he became this sweet, loveable guy with a massive crush on one of the other 20-something girls in the group (the one I identify with the most, of course!), which eventually became one of the main points of the story.

I totally have a crush on one of my characters, and he of course is going to come back in the end and be the happy ending for my FMC... so he doesn't seem like a MMC for most of the story... but I think I have a crush on him mostly because he's a fictionalization of a guy i really do have a crush on, hahaha... and of course the FMC is the fictionalization of myself :P

yep, i know how you feel. the second i introduced jason, i fell for him. -sighs- and, of course, he was only supposed to be a minor character, possibly one of my fmc's good friends. she was supposed to end up with dominic, who she has a crush on. but no. the moment jason walked onto the page, both johanna and i zoomed in on him and began to melt. -sighs- so now, johanna has decided to somehow manage to fall out of love with dom and in love with jason, all the while ditching jason's older sister... fun. actually, to make it even worse, jason was supposed to be gay, and now he's not...

I always have a bit of a crush on my MMCs. This year is no different. Jessup is the good-looking colleague who ends up moving in with my MFC. I already know what he looks like and the guy I envision is hot. Plus, he's got a great sense of humor and he doesn't take himself too seriously. I don't have any particular actor in mind--probably someone like Jake Gyllenhaal, I guess. :)

Not a problem.
Writers always seem to write their perfect boy, you know. I do this over and over. And then I meet a guy in real life who is close to him. And I'm too scared to say anything, so I compare him to this character and secretly crush on him and never say a word because I know that he may be like a character I write, but I'm not like the character he falls in love with. Most guys don't find strange quirks as attractive as guys in books and movies do, you know.

I've written the new love interest to be someone I know I'd love. The guy has a sense of humor, he loves the written word, he has a deep understanding of humanity in all it's glory and it's weakness, and he has the softest touch on a woman's body. YUMMY. LOL. Unfortunately for my poor Abra, he does not now... nor will he ever ...want babies. Such is life!!

----------He got attacked by a demon, but when he realized the girls that saved him were vampires he suddenly wanted to be one. He hadn't been in the story until my male/female couple walked in on him and one of my Main Character's best friends making out.
