Does anybody have a clue about the procedures for migrating to the USA during the forties? My Jewish MC wants to leave Palestine just before the founding of the state Israel and to go to the USA.

Hi,

Good question. Isreal was founded in 1948, so your story takes place before then, right? There was the Displaced Persons Act of 1948 which eased the way of persons from Europe to immigrate to the US but that doesn't help your MC.

I do know that the Johnson-Reed Act of 1924 was very restrictive and established quotas by country. Your MC would probably need to be sponsored in, preferrably by a relative. It doesn't have to be a close relative.

Sorry I can't be of more help.

Thank you anyway. No, this act doesn't help my MC, she's born in Palestine.

The answer is much different, depending upon the timing.

Your character is Jewish, which establishes one set of rules. However, the rules changed once the war was over. You say "just before the found of Israel," which was 1948. So, after the war?
