How many plastic water bottles would I need to store a blended child?
5 year old. Interesting story to get to this point, btw.

Would the volume get smaller, so I'd need less? I'm not really sure. Help appreciated.

conservation of mass taken into account...
5 yr old, as in average sized?
then....roughly 10. i'm thinking of the oraka bottles with the regular cap. more or less. but ten is a nice round number...

Well....

If the average mass of a small child is about one fourth of the average mass of a grown adult, they're probably about 25kg. The density of human flesh is about that of water, 1.0 g/cm^3, so if we're talking in one litre bottles, proooobably about 25-30 bottles. 8D

i'm thinking you should be able to pretty much wing it on this one... i mean, how many of your readers are going to be able to argue with you.... :-o maybe i dont want to know.

if there's five liters of blood in the average adult (i think)... i'd figure it would take at LEAST that much to store an entire five year old.... do you need an exact number or can you just reference the 'numerous bottles lining the shelf'?

and i have to say, this is one of the more interesting threads i've seen in a long time!! that has to be a VERY... 'interesting' story that got to this point! ;-)

Ah, but isn't a 5 year old child's skeletal system primarily cartilige? I wonder if there'd be a slightly higher liquid content. Even if it isn't, extracting its marrow for liquification would be greatly simplified and maybe more efficient.

Hmm...though you did say blended and not juiced. Water content may be somewhat irrelevant in that case. You can certainly fill plastic water bottles with dry or dryish subtances as long as the matter is able to fit through the top. I'd tend to think the pre-calcified state of the bones would indeed allow for greater blending potential. Bet you could probably fit the lil child into a case of 24 50-ML bottles.

Whipped, pureed, or liquified? The Proteins in the baby juice would probably tighten up sort of like a mereinge, pure speculation if you used a blender. You might end up with a larger volume than if it was just put through a juicer. Of course we could be more scientific hmmm....
A human is 61.8 % water by weight
a US gallon of water weighs 8.34 lbs
an Imperial gallon weighs 10 lbs

Going on a 65 lb child he would be 40 lbs of water give or take.

So I am not being accurate just guestimating the water fluids would be just under 5 Us gallons or 4 Imerial gallons.
leaving us about 25 lbs of divided between proteins, and structural elements such as calcium. Giving that they probably would blend in a larger volume than the water I'll give them about 3.5 gallons.

Grand total of 8.5 US gallons, and 7.5 Imerial gallons of baby juice from a 65 lb child.

edited----- my math was incorrect ----- sorry must have been the meds. ;)

My math is suspect but it was fun speculating. How about a squirell smoothy? Anybody?

A pint's a pound the world around. For water, at least, and humans are mostly water.

Assuming a 65 pound child, that would be 65 pints.

According to a conversion website, that is 30.7 liters, 8.1 gallons, 130 cups, and 1040 ounces. A standard waterbottle is about half a liter.

So a 65 pound child would probably fill 60-64 standard plastic water bottles, give or take. Not that anyone would argue the fact.

Also, would that be raw child, or cooked? It might cook down a little bit.

I have come to the definite conclusion we are a strange, crazy bunch. That said the sane people scare me. Also who certifies the sanity of psychologists?

Sorry, I have nothing of substance to add which should keep your bottle count down.

Oh wow. I love the NaNo forums so much. Only here can you ask such a demented question and get intelligent answers. xD

As far as the bottle goes, I have to agree with one person who posted above. Who's going to argue with you if you just wing it? I'd be a little disturbed if a reader seriously got mad and insisted that it wasn't twelve bottles, he got it in only six! You might accidently uncover a serial killer or something if people actually make a fuss about it.

I have to say, I really, really, love this forum. How many other places in the world ( internet or otherwise ) could we have a discussion about sticking a small child in a blender, and how many bottles would it take.

Besides, doesn't it depend on how much you blend them? Like, if there's going to be little chunks of bones and stuff or not? and if the bones were fished out or not, 'cos if they weren't it'd taste really gritty, wouldn't it?

I do agree this forum has some of the most interesting questions. I have acctually learned quite a good deal from being here. Mainly that there are a lot of creative solutions to any problem, and Nano's are an eclectic, if not downright strange bunch.

I just love this forum ... Kittychino anyone?

I'm impressed about how clinically people approach this sort of subject.

If I ever decide to commit a crime, it's certainly going to happen in November.

Oh my... only on these forums, I think, could people answer this question without being taken as a homocide suspect. I unfortunately am terrible at math, so the only way I could ever figure out how many bottles it would take to hold a blended child is through experience. Hm... now where is my 5 year old cousin... (NOT being serious on that note!)

But the volume would get smaller, I think.

I must concur with this statement.

xD

this Q&A wins the prize for best question of the month. I'm in this section of NaNo day in and day out, and other than the occasional, DESCRIBE THIS CHARACTERS DEATH threads, this is by far...the best. xDDDD

I wouldn't commit it in November. Too many WriMos would catch on to the small clues that were mentioned in the Realism forum!

i don't have problems with the math, but 65 lbs is hardly the average for a 5 year old, i think. maybe between 40-50, tops, for a decent-sized American kid.

Well these are American kids after all. but just to make it easier.
Let's just convert it for a 40 pounder. ;)

65/8.5 =40/x ....................... 65/7.5 = 40/x
65x = 8.5*40 ........................... 65x = 7.5 * 40
65x = 340 ................................ 65x = 300
x= 5.23 Gallons US..................... x = 4.62 Imperial Gallons

And to think in high school I asked what good algebra would be in real life.

Sorry, I have nothing helpful to add. I also just feel the need to kind of gape in a mix of disgust and awe.

You are pouring this child into bottles in order to reconstitute said child in a new form, yes? Please? Oh, poor child. :-(
