Hi. I'm Vea, and I'm usually over at the fantasy forum. I need a little advice, and I thought that here would be the best place to ask.
I keep having people tell me that I should make two of my characters fall in love. I'll describe them to you. Do you mind telling me what you think?
The Guy:
-Name: Voltaire (His mom wouldn't tell him who his dad was. His dad turns out to be the now deceased crown prince...)
-Nickname: Volt
-Race: Human
-Age: 15
-Eyes: Sapphire Blue
-Hair: Dark brown, sort of medium length
-Height: 5' 10"
-Weight: 134 ibs.
-Appearence: Almost angular
-Speech: More like a noble, he only has a commoner accent when he has a strong emotion towards something
-Occupation: Thief (He's one of the best thieves in the world)
-Personality: Calm, usually more passive unless he's provoked, sarcastic, loyal, stubborn, cunning, determined, disciplined, kind, he usually keeps his word, he doesn't hurt innocent people, he's actually sort of noble and good (he doesn't hurt the innocent or children, and he doesn't take advantage of women)
-Extra Description: Extremely graceful and stealthy, he also moves very fast and is a good improviser
-Background info: His mother and grandparents were all killed by disease. A few years later his brother was captured by the guards. He's trying to find his brother. He and Falean are very good friends (best friends, actually)
The Girl:
-Name: Falean Alexander
-Race: Human
-Age: 13
-Eyes: Deep Purple
-Hair: Long and black
-Height: 5' 2"
-Weight: 115 ibs.
-Appearence: Rounded features, slim
-Speech: American (region the state of Virginia)
-Occupation: Wizard-in-training
-Personality: More aggressive in nature, fiery, stubborn, determined, sarcastic, cunning, honorable (usually), kind, loyal, brave, sometimes arrogant and foolish
-Extra Description: Very powerful after only a few months of magic training, she is also psychic.
-Background info:Her parents were murdered a few months ago. She used to be more passive, but her want to avenge her parents made her more aggressive. She became very good friends (best friends, actually) with Voltaire. She is also the only person that he allows to call him Volt.
Thanks for the help!

First thing that strikes me is that these two are entirely too young to fall in love to have a long lasting relationship and take over the kingdom. Consider advancing their ages by TEN YEARS and then you can do it.
Other question to consider are:
what's your target audience? is it specifically fantasy? If so, you don't need the romance.
If you want to sell this in the romance genre, which is where you will actually make money should you sell it, you need to follow the rules of romance. Join www.rwanational.org and learn everything you can.
Good luck!

It's not really deep fantasy. It's more of a modern fantasy. The world I created is a different dimension (medieval setting). It ended up leaking into our dimension, so now there is a secret society of magical beings.
Voltaire is not going to become king anytime soon. It's going to be several years before his uncle, King Garrick, dies. In fact, Voltaire doesn't want to be king. He values his freedom too much. He won't rule the kingdom, and then he'll only rule it briefly, for several years. He's going to pass the throne to someone else (actually hs twin brother, Raphael, the one that was captured by the guards).
I know that he and Falean are too young to have a relationship. They are just going to stay best friends for now. The ages I gave are just the ages they are now in my story. They aren't actually going to fall in love until their late teens (17 to 19) or their early twenties.
Also, Falean's mentor and Voltaire's boss are the same person. Aleron (he's a psychic too) is very protective of Falean. He thinks of her almost as his own daughter. He wouldn't even let Voltaire think of Falean that way, at least not until later when the two of them fall in love.
Sorry about that. That post was a little confusing without this extra info. Thanks though! And thanks for the website too!
And also, my target audience is probably young adults and adults. I don't want to make it into a romance story, it's just that everyone keeps telling me that if you stick a single male and a single female character together for a long period of time, then the most likely will fall in love. I'm just trying to get some outside opinions.

To put it simply... I think that that's a stupid thing to do.
I mean, if it seems and works naturally, go for it. But don't stick in romance for the sake of having romance.
If you don't want to make it into romance story like you just said, then...don't.
