Title: Out of Her Place

Length: 69 pages, First Draft (Still Needs Ending), in English

Summary: A female police officer in the year 2028 is forced to make a series of decisions that will change the rest of her life. The laws of the United States at this point are so involved in people's personal lives that she has married a man she does not love to avoid persecution. The story flashes back to times in her life, and those around her, explaining the current situation. She eventually cheats on her husband, and is forced to flee the country. Her trip to Europe brings along her cousin, and they visit different countries, putting the pieces of thier family puzzle together, meeting half siblings and extended family they never knew. While the main character is reconciling the things she has done and the things she finds out about her own family, especially her mother, she struggles with intimacy with anyone aside from her cousin, with whom she shares a psychic connection that she recently discovered.

Subgenres: telepathy, future setting, dystopia, adultery, techlepathy, government role in personal life, sexism, gender roles

Known Issues: I know I have a lot of tangents in my novel. My character seems to drift into thought sometimes, reminicing, and I haven't weeded through those sections yet. I'm still working on the ending, too. I met 50K before she was finished with her transformation/journey.

Critique Requested: Plot, Character Believability, structure, tone, etc.. A little bit of anything you notice.

Critique Tolerance: Please be honest, but not cruel. If this sort of thing doesn't sound like it's up your alley, don't try to hurt my feelings.

Experience and Goals: This is actually my first completed (sort of) novel, although I am not new to writing. I would like to be published eventually, but I'm not deluding myself by saying it would be any time soon. I know I need to work a lot on my writing, which is why I want to be critiqued.

Method of Communication: I'm open to E-mail, because then I would have a hard copy of the things that need to be worked on and why, but personally I prefer telephone communication. I'd be willing to use either, and even IM.

Disclaimer: Contains somewhat graphic sexual scenes, and there are elements of infidelity and abortion.
