What I mean is, after one baby is born, would the mother's body be able to become impreganated a few months later or does it take a while for the body to get back to normal before another egg can be fertilized?

In my story, I want two sisters to be born on the 13th of December, one of them 16, one 17. Is it biologically possible?

Yes. I have 14 months between my first two and I have worked with chidrne that are 11 months apart. They reccomend waiting at least 6 weeks after the birth before resuming marital relations.

Why not? It'd be odd, but it's possible. You can get pregnant while you're nursing...
If they induced labor, that'd increase the odds even more. Maybe the local hospital only did non-emergancy c-sections on one day. If you have a second pregnancy a short time (like a year) after a c-section, you often have to have the second by c-section too.

My niece and my nephew were born in the same year, one in January, the other in December. I know a pair of sisters who are nine months apart. (The younger one was born prematurely.) It's possible to get pregnant again about six weeks after giving birth, though mothers who have been through it don't recommend it.

Obviously your question has been answered already, but I couldn't resist throwing stuff into the conversation. :-)

I have a friend who got pregnant really quickly after her daughter was born. (She was bottle-feeding, so once the 6 weeks wait was up, there was nothing stopping her from getting pregnant. She was pretty surprised, let me tell you!) As it turned out, she needed to have a c-section with the second child, because she had a lot of trouble having her first. Since it was a scheduled c-section, she had the opportunity to purposely give the kids the same birthday, one year apart. She actually debated quite a while on it, but came to the conclusion that it was a pretty cool thing, so she went for it. :-)

Yes. My sister-in-law has a niece and a nephew (her brother's kids) who are exactly 363 days apart.

Britney Spears' sons are about 12 months apart. So, clearly, aliens can get pregnant soon after giving birth, too.

Of course. Natural fertility can return as early as six weeks, and in fact, it's easier to get pregnant then because the cervix has not completely closed, so there is less of a barrier between the egg and sperm. They don't even have to have a period... ovulation comes before menstruation. Nursing can suppress ovulation, but it isn't 100%... my fertility generally returned with my first around three months even though I was exclusively breastfeeding around the clock, so it's absolutely possible, and actually quite likely, especially if the mother is formula feeding and using no birth control.

Now... is it wise? Not really. It takes around 18 months for a woman's body to return to normal after having a baby, and getting pregnant so soon after having a baby can increase the risk of complications. It's harder to bounce back to your normal body size if you don't give your body a chance to recover and lose what it gained with the first.

My former room mate was born about nine months before her younger brother, so it's definitely possible. The brother had a lot of medical conditions, though, and I'm not sure if that's directly related to the mom getting pregnant again so fast.

It is so possible. Your talking to a mother whom gave birth to two daughters exactly a year apart almost to the hour. My fifteen years-old was born at 2:30pm and then her fourteen years-old sister arrived on her first birthday at 3:00pm. So trust me, anything can happen.

Funnily enough, one of my cousins was born on the 13th of December and her sister on the 14th of December, the following year. So these are almost the exact age difference and birthdays you're looking for. :-)

Yes, it would. In fact, it's possible for people to be up to almost ten months apart. I know people where it's happened. And on being born on the same day, totally possible. One of my siblings and I are exactly four years apart (with another sibling in between us).

I take care of brothers who are 11 months apart.

On the topic of siblings having the same birthdays, my aunt is exactly 17 years older than her sister. It is also their father's birthday and was the older sister's due date for her second baby. Talk about a busy day!

:-)) :-)) Oh Yes it is!!!
My sister: 7th April 1971
Me: 31st March 1972
- so there's one week each year my sister an me are the "same" age. - Believe me this, as I am the younger, was the hardest week for my mum !

A typical conversation between me an mum when I was younger.
"No not you!"
"But mum, she(my sister) is allowed to go to that party."
"She is older than you."

.....hihi - didn`t work for mum in that first week of April!
Alirion war nicht alleine, dass sagte ihr ihr Verstand, auch wenn sie es nicht fühlen konnte.
