She quickly flipped through the Beach Cities Digest, disappointed by its listings of community theater events and yard sales. The LA Weekly was much more exciting and offered a wide range of advertisements for comedy shows, live music, book readings, nightclubs, as well as a wide range of cosmetic surgery and options for companionship, either in person or over the telephone. These pert ladies and strapping young men were apparently just waiting to hear from the readers of the LA Weekly. Did she need Botox? Apparently it could cure everything from wrinkles to cancer and was on sale at SurgiWorld for only $9 per shot. That seemed like quite a deal. She explored the skin around her eyes with her fingers. It still seemed taunt and young, but it was probably never too early to start combating wrinkles. After all, it wasn’t like she would ever see twenty five again.
In any case, she was excited to see one of her favorite authors would be speaking at a book signing in Pasadena that night. She would just zip up there to see that, perhaps stopping off in Santa Monica for some shopping and dinner at a cafe. It was almost two, and the book signing wasn’t until seven, there would be plenty of time to explore the shops on Third Street before heading over to Pasadena.
