Synopsis: The Vampire Trilogy :: 3 : The Vampire Murders

The Vampire Trilogy

((Note: These are not all the stories I was doing this year - they're the ones I stuck with for more than 3k))

Book #1. The Vampire Conspiracy
(Pseudo-Govt-Conspiracy Story)
Completed 8/11:// 54,437

What happens when a human is turned into a vampire and returned to their human self every few months for twenty-five years? Do they become shell-shocked, unable to function in any society? Do they become two people in the one body, the vampire and the human, unable to integrate themselves into the one mind? Or do they become normal, traumatised but able to function as a normal human?

The answers to these questions are the aim of Dr. Kellach McAuliffe's work. He's captured a human child from her parents and, with the backing of the Court of Elders, is conducting his experiments somewhere in southern Texas.

But after dealing with the shock and trauma of her incarceration for two and a half decades, Alyssa escapes her prison and runs north to the Canadian-American border, finding the small town of Glacksburg nestled in the middle of a forest. There she meets Arthur and Rachel Mayar, and her best friend, Morgan Chrislite, a bear-like wrestler who befriends the slight and pale girl without reservation.

But the trials and suffering of her incarceration are not over. Alyssa's vampirism has been painfully slowed by the effects of Kellach's experiments, but the self-generating venom in her mouth is causing her pain and damaging her body in a way that a quick turning would have avoided.

After ten years on the run, Matt Walker - Kellach's former right-hand man - and his family have moved into the town that Alyssa sought refuge in. Their movements have led Kellach and his Coven right to Alyssa, resulting in the death of one of her most cherished companions, and the turning of her closest friends.

Matt and his family have brought back memories that Alyssa has fought to suppress for years. The vampires' ability to read human minds has led to Matt's interest in Alyssa's quick words and dark thoughts...

However, more secrets stand to be revealed than Alyssa's past encounters with vampires. Liz and Matt have secrets of their own, fought and buried for a decade. But they must reveal these secrets if they want to take down the maniacal vampire responsible for Alyssa's scarred and mauled appearance.

And that's just what Matt intends to do.

Book #2: The Vampire Ardour
(Pseudo-Romance story)
Completed 22/11://50,058

It's been three years since Kellach McAuliffe, Alyssa's tormentor, was killed by the Elders in Thurso, Scotland. Three years since Matt and Alyssa got together, gluing their two families together in an almost-ideal relationship, beyond all faults of a normal relationship.

Three years since Blair O'Brien was turned by Alyssa in Thurso, instantly infatuated with her and her seductive feeding technique.

And it's all falling apart.

Blair's presence amongst the Walker family has caused stress and the fracturing of the group into two halves - Those who, like Alyssa, think that Blair should stay, and those who, like Matt, think he should be thrown from the family. Blair's taken this civil war between the extended family as an invitation, and has settled himself in to fight it out with Alyssa.

Matt, Liz, Trish, Brodie and Aleck run from the house at midnight and vanish into the blue, leaving Alyssa, Rachel, Blair, Aston and Morgan alone in Johrgan Winery Estates, Canada, with no idea where they are and a feeling that they won't be back.

Now Blair's most coveted dream has come true: Alyssa and Matt are no more, and his family is no longer around to stop Blair gettting Alyssa. But Alyssa is hurting far more deeply than he can understand - Aside from losing her life-partner and anchor, she's lost the sense of a real family that the large group of vampires had created over the last three years.

But, after only three years as a vampire, Alyssa has snapped. She has dragged Blair from Scotland to Montana and then on to Montreal and Paris. She's brought him to Notre Dame, where she intended to join Blair in death. Permenantly.

But only half of the plan works. Alyssa is dead but her boys are still alive. After a session of drinking just outside Moscow, Russia, however, that changes, and Matt joins her in Purgatory.

But the deaths of the hero and his femme fatale have irrevocably shattered something in the minds of the Walker Clan. Liz and Trish are dead and Morgan and Blair are on a murderous rampage in Tokyo, Japan. Alsistia and Christine must stop them, but is it possible?

Will good will out, after all? Or will the darkness of the vampire heart overtake all reason once more?

Book #3. The Vampire Murders
(Pseudo-Crime-fiction story)
Started 23/11/08 - Will continue on beyond NaNo (End of NaNo - 18 056 words)

For nine years, Alyssa and the new Angel Vampire Coven have hidden in Western Australia. But a hunt has gone wrong and the Angels must run for their lives

But the safe haven they envisaged in London is not to be. The seven vampires are sent back to Australia to face trial for the deaths of fifteen police officers in Mildura, Victoria, four more in Shark Bay, Western Australia, the death of an Aboriginal man at Uluru, Northern Territory, and a dozen more people besides.

And after that, they have to face the media and the London Police Force, who want to try the vampires for the deaths of seven of their own killed containing the vampires in their compound.

So, after all the pain of the last thirteen years, the truth about vampires is about to come out - on world-wide television.

The remaining six Elders are not happy with the Angels, and chase them to Australia. But will the Elders' assassination attempts against the Angel Coven do them good or bad? Will the Elders have enough time to return to Thurso, Scotland, before the alcohol the Angels were given turns the vampires into a pile of mush?

And will the humans finally believe the truth about the Vampire World?

XIX. The Twelve Known Animal Shifters

The door was thrown open and the Court fell quiet as an assortment of animals raced into the room, lead by an elephant, a black bear, a polar bear and an incredibly large lizard. The lizard's body was as long as the elephant, its head, when it lifted it from the ground, reached the elephant's shoulder.

Behind the larger animals came a mottled cat, a seal, a vampire and a kangaroo. The kangaroo didn't bound in; it used its front feet and tail to hold itself up while it moved its back feet forward, loping along at a pace that the seal could easily keep up with.

The vampire reached the area where the larger animals had stopped, and smiled at the other vampires sitting against the edge of the empty floor. She smiled at them and made a clicking noise, similar to that of a dolphin. She took a step backwards and fell into a large tank of water that had been revealed. When her head broke the surface, the rest of her quickly followed. She was a dolphin-Shifter, enjoying the water more than she had the air as a vampire.

Over their heads, Trish soared in accompanied by an eagle, the pair keeping a great distance between them. Liz stood up and held out her hand, and her mother perched on the underside of her arm, the bat's ears searching out the noises she heard in the room.

The eagle landed on the elephant's back, something clutched in its talons. A second later it let it go, jumping back as the cockroach swelled. The vampires cringed until the cockroach became a vampire, the elephant underneath him protesting at being used as a seat.

The giant lizard stood up on its back feet, resting its front claws on the elephant's side as it tried to knock the vampire from the elephant's back. The cockroach-Shifter evaded the nuzzlings until the lizard wrapped its tongue around his middle, dragging him to the ground before he could Shift out of the lizard's hold.

All of the animals bar the dolphin Shifted into their human selves, making their way over to where the Walkers and their extended - estranged family were sitting. Morgan sat back down, Chattana and Trish beside her, Trish turning to kiss Rachel on the cheek as she sat.

"It's great to see you again," Trish said, smiling at her best friend. "Curse our kids for ruining our friendship." Trish looked around the collection. "I noticed Alyssa wasn't with you. I was hoping she was out here, waiting for us."

"Alyssa died two days ago, Walkers," Alsistia said, standing behind the Indian elephant - Shifter, Privai, who stepped aside to reveal the lesbian Elder. "We're here to read the Will that she sent to us a year or so before she died, requesting each and every one of you in attendance."

Matt stepped towards Blair, glaring at him. "You got Alyssa killed?" he demanded, grabbing the vampire by the neck of his shirt and pulling him forward. "I left her in your care!"

"She bloody got herself killed!" Blair yelled back, throwing Matt from her. "Because you left her! Did you realise how much of a safe place you were for her? Did you realise what leaving her would drive her to do? Did you?"

The lizard - Shifter tried to step between them, but the polar bear-Shifter held out an arm, stopping him. The lizard - Shifter glared at the bear, but the polar bear-Shifter shook his head.

"They need to work this out," he said, his accent that of a Native American Indian who had only just started to learn English. "They need to sort this out, to get it out of their minds. Only then will they grieve properly for their shared loss, Rheu."

"If you say so, Kachada Honaw," he said with great respect, bowing slightly. It was obvious he knew about the polar bear from before this meeting. "But if they start to look like they're killing each other, I am going to stop them."

"As it should be," the American Indian said, watching Matt failing to control his anger.

"I left her in your care under the assumption that you could protect her!" Matt snarled, reaching for Blair again.

The younger vampire grabbed Matt's hand and twisted it behind Matt, locking his elbow. He clenched his fist, glaring at Matt, who couldn't move.

"I can shatter your elbow now, leaving you with an elbow that will no longer work and which – even with a vampire's accelerated healing ability – will have you whimpering in pain for the next god-knows-how-many weeks, or you can stop trying to kill me and read the letter Alyssa left for you." Blair twisted Matt's arm just a little further, drawing back his fist and aiming. "The choice is yours."

Matt tried to struggle out of Blair's grip, but the younger vampire held the stronger one in a way that stopped him escaping. The entire Court trickled out of the room while Matt tried to escape, leaving the Shifters, the Elders and the Walkers in the centre of the audience space.

"Fine!" he yelled in frustration. "Just, let me go!"

Blair let him go and stepped back, letting Matt rub the feeling back into his hand.
"Where the hell did you learn that?" Matt demanded, rubbing at his elbow.

"Alyssa used it in a bar fight and I've been meaning to try it out."

"If you two have finished your testosterone battle?" Christine asked, holding a bundle of letters that Blair recognised as coming from Alyssa's handbag. "Good. Then I think we can read out the letter she sent us first, and then you can have your individual ones."

Alsistia took the letter that Thursor was holding out to her, holding the paper close to her nose as she read.
